    Hi all,

Can anyone give me a direct link to where I can buy (or get!) an European street level map update for the T920? Seems a simple question but can't get the answer. Please don't reply with a general website name such as www.route66.com I need to know the specific link and specific product to buy.

    Thanks,

    W.

After lots of research and a few helpful PMs, I think that this is the upgrade http://www.66.com/route66/products.php?cid=IE&sec=6&ssec=1&prodid=2327

    Do you agree?

Someone said to me that the T920 cannot be updated, ever. Is this true?

please see a question to and response from route66:

Please note that the updates that are available on our website are only software updates and do not update geographic data.

I kindly inform you that, however, the updates for ROUTE 66 Navigate 7 that are available on our website run only on a compatible Pocket PC and are not compatible with the Airis PND.

Please note that there is no update for the ROUTE 66 Navigate 7 software that runs on the Airis PND available on our website.

    Kind regards,

    Subject: Airis t920

    Hello,

I understand that the airis t920, if purchased through pixmania, ships with Route 66 mapping. I am looking for the European maps to be on the system.

In say a year's time, if I want to update the maps, is it possible to purchase map updates for the airis t920 directly from Route 66. If so, which product should I buy and how much does it currently cost?

If that product is on your website, could you give me direct link to it?

    Many thanks,

The Route66 maps for any platform work fine on the T920. Never mind what R66 themselves say, it's their stock answer.

Would the installation program not check for the device type?

    Please eirlink, tell us how.

What map upgrade type did you have, where did you get it (or where could we get it) and what method did you use to install.

    Pleeeaaaasssseee.

    Many thanks,

Would be interested to know if the Fermoy bypass in Cork is on there, that was the only big omission I've really come across.

    Thanks :)

eirlink > Q4-2006 ? It's really weird ... Route66 are selling their PND "Chicago" with a free 2007 map upgrade. And Airis are going to sell their new T930 with 2007 maps (according to spanish website of Airis).

    Q4-2006 is pretty old...
Q2-2007 is available from Navteq, so why Route66 is implementing Q4-2006 ?!

usually new maps are packaged when new hardware is due out, in this case the 930, so i guess airis are looking for 2007 maps to launch this product. Im not sure however if it will ship with the same software version of R66, if indeed R66 at all.

as for the t920..( and it had a few variants...mines a B ),it shipped with Q2 2006 and the only map update ive managed to get hold of is a pre-release of Q4 2006 ( from route 66 themselves ) and its due for sale near august.

if you need newer than Q2 2006 you will have to invest in the 930...

thats the way airis do business i guess !

    Thanks for your answer !

T930 will be sold with Route66, at leat in Spain and France. In eastern Europe, you can find the T930 with iGo.

If Airis or Route66 is about to sell map update for our T920, I guess that a lot of people will be really happy to get it ! Because T920 is really poor concerning software and maps updates :(

That's a bit of a kick in the teeth, so if I want to upgrade my T920a, I can't and I'll just have to sell it and get a t930? Could really do with the updated maps, especially The Ashbourne bypass!

    ,

Pardon me for being completely thick. Is it the case that the T920 cannot officially be updated but Eirlink you have sussed out a workaround?

the t920 runs navteq mapping. YES these maps CAN be updated around august, when they will be available to public.

I have this release in my airis at the moment on beta test....its not on general release till R66 decide.

the update will bring the maps up to Q4 2006. If however you need NEWER than that ( ie 2007 maps) it looks like these are only being shopped with the new hardware ( ie the 930 )

If you could upgrade the maps to 2007 on the 920....nobody would buy the 930 !!

thats how the business model works with Airis

Bastids! Surely there'd be some way to hack it I'd say. I bought my t920 with "upgradable maps" as one of the features and now they wont put any out:mad:

Thanks Eirlink. So, this is the case with all sat navs? If you want new maps buy a new device? I never did know much about sat nav but had the idea from somewhere that you could purchase new/updated maps every once in a while.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 844 ✭✭✭eirlink

you dont need to hack the 920 at all..

you need to BUY THE Q2 2006 update when its available for sale ( looks like august) and load it into your 920..simple

however if you want the 2007 maps YOU HAVE to buy a 930...cause thats the only way to get your hands on the 2007 mapping

if you bought off pixmania then youll have fun getting mapping of them !!

( i doubt THEY even have the pre-release im testing at the moment !! )

How did you get chosen to beta test it?

I think I hav Q3 2006? Don't want to have to buy the 930 just for updated maps.

map upgrades are available for most popular sat navs, just depends where you buy.

i chose the airis from mysatnav dot ie and have had no problems whatsoever...i can walk in for my upgrade as and when one is released.

the key to buying ANY satnav is to ensure you have a way of getting maps on an ongoing basis.

Just remember ( in most cases ) an upgrade map will be nearly always be behind whats released with a brand new piece of hardware.
dont forget its the mapping that sells the unit so no point in having the update mapping the same ..

    i hope that makes sense.

Hummm, Airis T930 should replace T920 this summer. During few weeks, I guess that we'll find both devices in shops.

T930 aims to new customers and not T920 users. Because T930 is relaly similar to T920. Airis would benefit to allow T920 customers to update theirs maps, otherwise they'd probably buy other devices.

I'm in contact with Airis France, I'll try to get more information about update policy.
