Trapani, Sicily with Ryanair

We're looking at Sicily as an option for the hols this year, but getting there seems to be either a hassle (3 flights to get there with Alitalia) or quite expensive. I see that Ryanair fly to Trapani on the west coast. Has anyone ever flown there with them, and if so what's the airport like for hiring a car, transport to…
