What do you all make of it?. Only had my first real problem with it now. Playing 25/50 i CR set on the turn, only for him to type some jibberish and let it timeout. River came gave me full house and him only TP. Thought it was abit crazy as he did not dc he just let the timer run out. I dont agree with that at all. Not even an internet connection issue, just the pu55y not wanting to call and seeing the river for free..!!!!

had it today and it worked out real bad.

I had AK and 3 bet preflop and the flop came AK7 2 hearts. He bet out small and I guessed he was on the flush draw so i pushed and sure enough the timer ran and ran and then DB came in and he hits flush on the river for a nice pot... and he's back in the next hand....

I know there are tables you can pick thayt dont have it but............ I reported a few people for this on everest and they had their DB revoked....... fair enough for a guy that genuinely disconnects when he has put a lot of money in the pot.... i understand that it's to stop the other guy betting him off it for 1bb or something.

    frustrating!

i had some fcukwad do it to me today with AQ on a A27 flop. I had AK and shoved over his check raise. Still slightly tilted 4 hours later after he hit a backdoor flush.

No, the internet doesnt work that way.

Imagine the internet as a small hole in the wall through which you push written notes. The person on the other side scribbles their reply (maybe a short yes/no, maybe a long essay) and you see it arrive as a piece of paper pushed back through the hole.

You cannot know if the person on the other side of the wall is not replying or has dropped dead. Thus it is with the internet, the client cannot distinguish between a network cable that has been pulled out and a real disconnection.

One thing though, a person who typed something in a chat box would be recognised by the server as still being there and would continue to time the hand out.

The software is sent regular little messages which it responds to without you knowing about it, these are sometimes called "ping pongs" or stay-alives. They are the equivalent to shouting though the hole "are you still there" "yeah, be right with you". So simply not talking wont fool the server into thinking you have been disconnected.

If you think somebody is abusing DP then report them via email or online support. If someone is abusing it then they will have their DP option removed.

Havn't done this on i-poker but done it on everest and it's exactly what they did..... how many dp's do you get on i-poker?

what exactly happens with DP? if you get disconnected at any stage once you've bet or called a raise you get to showdown for free, the other player(s) are frozen out of betting the hand from there on?

    thats it exactly....

It's like playing live and you have a flush draw and you bet ouit with it and the other guy comes over the top for 500 more.........it's a decision for your whole tank but there is already 200 in the middle........ choice is call or fold....... you cant say "i'll tell you what take back your 500 i'll leave the table for a min and deal the next two cards ... if I win I get whats in the middle and you can't bet on the next two streets either..."

but on the internet choice is call /fold/or pull your internet connection......

it's there to protect genuine disconnects but I have noticed it being abused..

BTW this is not just an i-poker issue to be fair to them..... other sites also use it... and on i-poker they provide some tables with no db which other sites dont

It's certainly not an iPoker issue, this is something that goes on with every site where there is DP. Just report everyone you see abusing it, even if you're not in the hand.

iPoker also operate "Disc Protect levels". Each time you use your DP it takes longer until it is returned to you.

If you use DP again within a certain time frame after it is returned to you, you move up a level.

This continues until you reach the top level, then DP is fully revoked for that player.

There are these things called Private Messages slegs  :p

I actually like the way iPoker handles DP, I just wish it was more stable.

I had some real fishy buddy listed guy do it to me yesterday and am fully sure the guy has done it before. I had re-raised anothyer raiser pf with JJ after my buddy had already limped. He times out and ends up all-in, I'm fully sure he wasn't disconnected. Turns out he has K9, it was just as well he didn't actually call preflop as he ended up with a house of Kings. Still even fish boy would have folded here I think if he didn't have this sneaky disconnection out so it cost me the pot. I'll pm you his alias.

Usually people won't bother using their DP for a PF Limp, I'd say that was a genuine one, it's usually when they have some kind of draw or pair and are facing an AI for a Big Pot is when it's used, it can be really annoying.

agreed Ste..... havn't seen it used pf. I found it's normally with a flush draw or top pair weak kicker when the pot is already pretty large and they are facing a decision for their stack.... the chickens...

I don't think DP has ever actually helped me  but i may be glad of it someday when i'm slowplaying my quads and fish pushes for his last 2 dollars and i'm about to call while laughing and eircom boot me off the interweb!!!

As has been pointed out, there are DP-free tables if you prefer to use them. Personally I havent found it to be a big problem.
