Good question, I have only recently been thinking about doing the same thing and will be able to avail of "Sky Anytime"

My own V2 Box is doing the same. Sky won't budge on a discount (despite me - until the Movies rebrand - having had the full package for over 10 years) so I've bought a 3 month old HD box from ebay for just under €220 that'll give me plus functionality, a much larger disk, Anytime support, and HD support if I replace the TV (probably this summer).

    Much better idea IMO :)

Jaysus, €220 wasn't bad for a SkyHD box! Good price. Don't be expecting to be in awe of Sky Anytime though. It's pretty poor most of the times I look through it, swamped with kids programmes. :(

actually, while were on the subject.. Is €220 a good price for a Pace PVR3 box with a standard hard drive in it. It's got a 1 year warranty. Was going to buy a Thomson box for around €130 but backed out after reading some unflattering reviews.

Well, Sky will give you a PVR3 for €149 plus €75 install fee, so would be cheaper than the offer you're getting.

The only Thomson PVRs I'm familiar with are the SkyHD boxes, seem OK, though no other HD boxes to compare to.

I've noticed on some sites, that many recommend the Pace PVR2, though this of course has a smaller HDD and won't work with Sky Anytime.

Can you just buy the box from Sky and do the install yourself...?

That's without the extra sky charge of 35 quid for installations without a phone line. Also, I've been given the impression that if you ring sky to do an upgrade, it's a lottery to which box you'll get. Either the Pace, the woeful Thomson or the even worse Amstrad.

I'm going to go for the sky moving home deal that works out around 50 quid I think. Then I'll just cross my fingers that I'll get an accomodating installer that'll use the lnb I provide.

AFAIK, you can't just buy a Sky+ from Sky. You could buy one from an independant retailer, though it would cost more than the €149.

There shouldn't be a problem with the installer using your LNB, provided it's an LNB designed to work with a Sky Minidish.
