Graduation

I'm rather annoyed now, didn't receive the forms about graduation until the other day since they were sent to my parents' house, and then I see you had to have the form back by June 7th to graduate in October, well that was impossible for me, even if I'd received the thing right away. It says they're strict about the closing date, are they really? Anyone have any idea who I can email/phone?

AFAIK they really are very strict about the date. However are you sure you have the right one? A June deadline for an October graduation is quite early; it's usually two months beforehand (although maybe they close for a few months in the summer or something, which would explain it).

Anyway, I'd say def give the Proctor's office a ring and ask them if it's definitely too late. Always worth a try.

  • Thats what my friend is saying. June 7th seems very unfair since I still haven't even finished my finals so maybe my mum is mistaken (she told me this)
Do you know where I could get a no for the Proctor's office?

    Tel: 896 1448 / 896 1218 / 896 2744

I think your mum is wrong though. According to this from the Proctor's Office, which is what would have been sent out to your house, there aren't any commencements in October. There are ones in November though, but the deadline for them is October 11th.

Do you mind me asking what course you're doing? Usually it's the practical courses (e.g. Medicine, Social Work) that graduate in the summer; everyone else graduates later.

    Edit: Duh, forgot the link.

  • My friend says the deadline is October, its my mum who says its June, I suspect perhaps shes mistaken, she read it in a hurry. I'm doing TSM.

I also have no idea how to fill out the form which is a bit embarrassing seeing as I just did a degree :o

it's not june. it'll be about a month before the date and no more than two.

Sorry, I misread your post

Yeah it looks like your Mum just made a mistake, cos it is a bit confusing on the form; however it's pretty clear that if you're graduating in November or December then you don't have to have your form in until October at the very latest. Don't worry!

The forms do look really complicated, but once you start filling it in it's actually really straightforward.

    Dear Candidate Bachelor,

According to the records you are expected to sit your Degree Examinations this year. In order to graduate you must make application to the Proctor’s Office to have the degrees of

    B.A.

    B.A.I.

conferred upon you. For your convenience, the necessary information and forms will be forwarded to your home address as recorded by the Student Records Office (as at June 8th, 2007) within the next ten days. The address to which the information pack will be sent can be confirmed by accessing your record on the Student Information System. If this address is incorrect please contact the Proctors’ Office (proctor@tcd.ie) immediately so that a new information pack can be issued. Please note that you are also required to inform the Student Records Office of any changes to your address details.

Think you got confused with the date they're sending stuff out and when it has to be in by. Plus this PDF mentions the cut-off dates, so you're grand.
