How much do you use your LCD on the fly?

How often do you check shots on the screen on your cam? Do you check every shot? Or do you know your camera well enough that you play about with settings in-between shots without having to look at the result? I find that if I have the time (i.e if the subject is a subject that allows me that luxury) I'll check it for lots of shots and make the necessary deemed adjustments. If I don't have the time (at gigs, or event with people or subjects that are changing quickly) I'll just shoot and make a few guesstimate changes and maybe check every now and then to see what I've got. Thats just me. Maybe I'm doing it all aris ways.

It really depends on the situation. If the conditions are fairly constant, then I'd check a few images and check the histogram. If they look ok, then I'd leave the settings alone. I always shoot raw, so the images can be adjusted later. All I need to make sure is that there is enough light in the image and the focus is correct.

I use it most of the time, to check exposure and sharpness. Obviously if somethings gone wrong with the framing or something, I'll notice as well. It's a useful tool and it'd be silly not to use it if you have the opportunity. Obviously, at a gig or sports event, you don't always have the chance, but if you check occasionally, just to make sure everything's alright, you don't really need to.

Rarely... I hope to know what I'm getting!!!

I even have the auto preview turned off.

Only use it to check the Histogram.

Depends on what I'm photographing. Landscape stuff, low volume, I'll check it more. Kitesurfing I very rarely check it on the grounds that I don't have time.

i have to admit - i am constantly examining the LCD screen

and i've ruined a few shoots because i've been focusing (pun intended) on the wrong part of the whole set-up
these days i try and review some..mostly for focus!! then continue shooting, but like with digital..well - it's there -you can look, you know peek and see if it's ok!!! :)

I used to use it , but now , never , Im with Brian Peterson on this one ,

"the histogram is useless , turn it off "

His words not mine , seriously though , I never use it or the screen ( any more , it took a good bit of learning though ) , the only LCD I look at is the top one for settings , ( which is why I dont like the 400D ) , all I need to know is the aperture , speed , and the exposure level.

I have preview turned off , do you know how many extra shots per battery charge you get because of that ? Loads !!

Dont check it at all, I use exposure bracketing if its a bit dodgy.

I use it quite a bit and probably more than I should. I look at how the composition worked and the histogram. I do think it's great to be able to know when you've managed to catch everyone with their eyes open in a group shot.

I have to say I relied on it a lot for about 12mths as it was my first SLR but I only check it now for the first or second shot and then shoot away

I think it s a good exercice to turn the auto preview off and rely on your instinct plus you save your batteries.
One situation I would never rely on it but rather just on the histogramm, is on a very sunny day... the image you get from the LCD is just not reliable, especially if, like me, you forgot that you re wearing sunglasses :o

I usually check shots, except as already mentioned by the OP at gigs, where I just shoot indiscriminately and worry about them later
