    Five picks up Football Italia

Five has won the UK rights to show Italian football following the end of Setanta Sports' contract.

It is a surprise move by the terrestrial broadcaster as Italy's Serie A division does not have any big-name English players at the moment.

Last year's match-fixing scandal also made the division less competitive, with Juventus being relegated and several other top sides being docked points. But Juventus have returned to the top division and next season will be stronger.

Bravo, which shared some of the rights with Setanta for the 2006-7 season, chose to stop showing the games at the turn of the year due to fluctuating audience figures.

Football Italia was broadcast on Channel 4 until 2002. It then switched to British Eurosport for two-and-a-half seasons, after which Bravo and Setanta shared coverage between 2005 and 2007.

Sunset and Vine has won the contract to produce Five's coverage.

    Five was unavailable for comment.

Wouldn't surprise me if Setanta Ireland kept the rights for Ireland.
