Best No limit Hold em donkament player to date. It's simple, you can't argue with his record. I would always like him to win.

    Phil Wins!

Andy Philacheck pushes with AT clubs and Phil has to call with A3o. Dominated he is but the flop is 934; Phil is ahead and has to dodge two cards for his 11th bracelet. Turn is Q, River is J.

    And its over.

    What a record!
    Legend.

Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson award the record 11th bracelet to Phil Hellmuth.

    Nice touch!
Fair fecks to him, he plays them all so he should have a couple of bracelets, but still, 11 WSOP bracelets, all in NLHE is impressive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,902 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

Only 7 were NLHE, he has a pot limit braclet, and 3 limit braclets, he won the 5k limit event back to back 92 & 93

    FMP :o

I really need to polish up on my Hellmuth trivia, nicely corrected Mellor, I knew they were all Hold 'Em and probably just assumed all NL.

    WP that legend!

I heard Nicky O'D actually wept with joy when he won it, can anyone confirm?

Naturally enough I'm not gonna argue with his American record, but as for his european.......
he has a total winnings of $302,808 in europe, in comparison to $9,044,475 in the US... sorry for those facts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,156 ✭✭✭cuterob

thats because he hasnt played many in europe..and 300k is a lot more than a lot of people have won in europe..sorry about those facts

nicely corrected Ste, he plays deuce to seven alot, cant be long before he gets one of these too.
I reckon he'll make it 12 by the end of this WSOP

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,902 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

he's played a few in europe. He has probably spend a decent part of that 300K on entry fees, Monte Carlo blow-outs a few times

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,156 ✭✭✭cuterob

i can see him running deep in the ME...imagine if he won it..he'd never shut up again..rightly so though if he pulled it off...i'd love to see a final table with hellmuth, ivey and cunningham...they're all running good this year...ivey came 2nd in 7 card stud and the other two got bracelets

ha probaly...he has so much money though..from sponsorship..tv..his companies and products that he can afford to do things like blow 500k playing chinese poker in one night with ivey which he did last year...the money means nothing to him at this stage

So now your agreeing that he is not a successful european tournament player?? We all know he is not a successful cash game player so he depends mainly on tournaments... If he blew over 300k in tournaments in europe, his winnings do not cancel out his losses.... then that to me doesn't sound like a successful european tournament player. Dont get me wrong, he's a great player and I respect him.. I just tink the more aggressive european style suits him at all!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,156 ✭✭✭cuterob

ha steve you really cant let things go

300k is absolutely nothing to him..he's a multi millionaire..he doesnt need tournament wins..he's a successful business man involved with companies and products...300k is also a lot more than a lot of people have won over here..and i doubt hes spent 300k on tournaments over here..it was more of laughin along with a joke

they didnt text me about that tournament tonight yet..they will later on i'd say..it could be a 50+5 tourney

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,512 ✭✭✭stevire

Yeah I know the money means nothing.... But if you add up what he's spent compared to what he's won, its still noting to do with money and I get that point but that fact is he hasnt won an awful lot in europe... 1 win in a major tourney would make up 300k easily but he hasnt been able to do it....

Ah I wont be playin anything tonight I think, I'll be going thurs tho.. Either hit the town or down to the Big Slick and see whats on!!

Nt sure... Think they started up a league game... If not I'll go into the cash game! Thats if I get up off my ass and go...

Neway back on topic... Hellmuth is the greatest :D

He really should stick to hold'em,
500ki ivey in one night, and he blamed it on luck, i doubt it, ivey plays it alot,

with the ME getting so big in recent years, the horse event is becoming the main attraction for the decider of the best player

    I've busted a million Europeans
    .

Btw, lol @ phil not being a good 'European' tournament player.
    1) chances are, he has not played enough to let the massive variance of MTTs even itself out
    2) If he has won 300k and spent 300k on entries that equals 0 loss, 0 winnings, alot better than most players.
    3) Hold 'em is still hold em wherever its played, the fundamentals are still the same.

Oh sorry guys... Did not know I was being judged on my spelling errors. I was just trying to be economical with the page length, save the enviroment, green party, etc. However, if it had have came to light earlier that my spelling would be under scrutiny any time I made a post, then perhaps I may have took the time to procrastinate over the spelling of each word. NNNNNNNNOOOOOTTT!! :p

Phil has played plenty of European events, obviously fundamentals change but so do the players. Europeans are reknowned for their aggressive style and has long been known that some Americans can find it hard to adapt to this style of play!

Its my opinion and I dont think it'll change anytime soon, (but that's not to say I disrespect anyone elses opinions... I like to hear other views). Maybe if/when Hellmuth wins an EPT, Monte Carlo, or similiar, only then will I reconsider the fundamental backround to my opinions :D

Bellmuth is a legend, an entertaining bellend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,156 ✭✭✭cuterob

i feel like i'm flogging a dead horse but just just cause the tournament is in europe doesnt mean there's no american players there and vice versa...phil played 3000 players in the $1500 event and i'm sure not all of them were american..you sound like your talking about the scandinavians in terms of the 'european aggressive style of play'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,243 ✭✭✭✭Jesus Wept

Hellmuth is amazing, he won a bracelet last year and one this year, 11 total

    what a record!

i'm glad to see him win, he's one of my favourite poker "superstars". i don't know why he gets so much schtick really, he usually plays great and is always fun too watch. he played terribly on poker after dark show and HSP season 1 but any wsop/wpt event i've seen him in he's always been excellent. i wonder if he'll pick up a 12th this year.

on another note Humberto Brenes has made 3 final tables already, cunningham and hellmuth both won events. chris ferguson, gavin smith and jennifer harman have all made final tables, phil ivey has come second in the 7 card stud championship

seems like its the year of the pro's and they've gotten over all the internet players, the ME is only expected to have around 5000 at it because of the gambling online thing in america now..not as many internet qualifiers who cant play poker....*cough moneymaker cough* :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,512 ✭✭✭stevire

What are you talking about, Moneymaker is a top pro... Did you not see his big fold against Johnny Chan and Howard Lederer?? And not to mention his fantastic call against Humberto Brenes, when Brenes picks up AA and Moneymaker calls an all in on the flop with 88 when theres like two overcards... Pure class
