I am travelling to the States soon and was advised to bring dollars as the rate was good a while back. However I am a bit concerned about bringing cash through customs as someone told me that the authorities can haul you in and question you and confiscate the money.... Anyone have any difficulty bringing a couple of thousand dollars cash? Thanks

You have to declare anything over $10,000. I've never had any bother.

If you are going on a couple of weeks holidays and you had a grand or two in cash I wouldn't see anything wrong with that.

If you were there for a couple of days and had tens of thousands that could be a different story

I took over $5,000 through but I was on a J1. They didn't ask me anything. They re only interested if it's over the $10k mark.
