Just wondering has anybody here worked for HP in AIB IFSC as an IT Service Desk Analyst? It's basically first level with some second level and I'm being offered €26k.

A buddy of mine told me to avoid this place like the plague but I would like to hear some other opinions before I make any rash decisions.

    Thanks :)

i find it funny how they try to play with words to make the job sound more appealing. It is what it is ...first level tech support. Dont be conned by them throwing analyst into the title...

Yeah I know that they word it to sound more appealing, but it would be dealing with internal staff only so it doesn't sound too bad (dealing with the public would be much worse I think).

Anyway, has anybody heard anything good or bad about this place? Do they treat staff well, what are the management like, that sort of thing.

    Thanks :)

If it's HP in AIB then I assume there's a good chance that you are being employed by CPL?

Well it is a 12 month contract working directly for HP in AIB. After the 12 months is up I would be working for an agency instead of HP, but not CPL (I've heard they are terrible to work for). It seems sort of confusing, but if I was to take this job then it would only be for the initial 12 months as I would refuse to get involved with an agency after that.

Don't CPL supply the staff to HP who supply the staff to other companies? I think that's how it works.

Are you sure the job is actually in the IFSC?

ive worked with AIB/BNY in the ifsc...worked in the software testing department which was a nightmare..support wasnt too bad...although i worked with bank of ireland through hp based at baggot street...and ended up getting the sack..in my experience...banks are more rules and regulations...they use old software..dont want to change with the times..stick with it related companies and government bodies ..they are more relaxed....financial organisations just mean one word in my book..trouble

Yes CPL usually supply staff for HP who in turn supply staff to other companies but this is through IT Alliance and they assured me that I will be working for HP for 12 months then them after the initial 12 months contract is up. Also, it is definitely in the IFSC supporting internal staff.

This is the sort of thing that I was afraid of. A friend of mine worked in both AIB IFSC (contract, not through CPL) & HP Clonskeagh (through CPL) and told me to avoid both of them as they are both nightmare places to work.

I posted here just to get a more rounded view from people and not just take my friends word for it. I am just under the impression that it is infact just another stress filled call centre and I don't need a headache like that TBH.

Tbh I think helpdesk is a thankless and unfulfilling job no matter where you do it, I read a report in a reputable journal saying longterm helpdesk/call centre workers have really high rates of depression/stress related illness.

Working for helpdesk functions in banks is very different from working in their actual IT dept. as most helpdesks are outsourced and not permanent staff members, therefore they are not entitled to same salary scales/promotion oppurtunites/training/pensions/bonuses etc.....

STAY AWAY FROM SUPPORT - FULL STOP.

If i could do it again i'd be a plumber or some proper mans work, it's humilating changing some icon colour setting for some st*pid ret*rd who's on 10 times more money than you...

I worked in AIB Capital Markets (IFSC) about 6 years ago and it was a dreadful place to work. I was working for IT Alliance and they had me on site in AIB, the AIB management were complete f*cktards and treated the contractors like scum.

I was being paid the equivilant of €22.5k pa and that was 6 or 7 years ago, looks like their rates haven't changed with the times.

I'm still working in support these days, yes it is a bit taxing but can be very rewarding especially if you're into IT stuff yourself and I earn €45k upwards now which isn't too shabby. ;)

Thanks for all your replies :)

IT Alliance have set-up an interview for me in AIB tomorrow meeting with some guy called Gary Woods, but after reading what people have posted here along with my original apprehensions, I think I will give this place a miss and go for a more hands on role somewhere else instead.

I don't see where support gets you other than more support jobs. But it would depend entirely where you are coming from and where you want to go.

I've an interview for the AIB CityWest HelpDesk. Any one know if its anyway decent? Even AIB, are they generally a good company? Im a bit apprehensive about leavin my current job coz its with (imo) a much better company. The only reason i'd go is for either more money or better promotion prospects.

If you are happy in your current position then I'd stay there. Can't see promotion prospects being great as all decent IT jobs are filled through contrators or graduate recruitment process, money well I don't know how much you are on now but can't imagine it'd be much different.....

Used to work in AIB a few years ago on the periphery of IT so take this with a pinch of salt.

You are not going to get rich in AIB and certainly not in a support function. You will, however, have a "permanent job", alright salary, performance related pay, a decent pension, subsidised canteen, half you sports membership fees paid, good training opportunities, paid holidays, good promotional prospects if you are the right person. 36 hour working week, extra days holidays at Christmas, national pay agreement -hmmm as I type these I wonder why I left ;)

My boss there said you should only leave here if you can double your salary in the outside world. I did that twice so I have no regrets leaving.
