Hourly Rate for Cad Technician?

    Anybody know how much I should be charging for doing a "nixer" for an elec company that needs some cad drgs done of an installation. I reckon it'll take 40/50 hrs to complete. Trying to figure out what sort of hourly rate would be feasible. I was thinking 50 an hour (2-2.5k), anyone think thats reasonable? My job entails some cadwork but mainly engineering "stuff" so haven't a clue what to be charging really. Any advice appreciated. :)

    I used to work for an architectural company as a CAD tech and they charged €45 per hour.

    While a professional firm might be able to charge €50 an hour for a CAD tech, you're NOT a CAD tech, so you'll be a lot slower. Furthermore if the commercial rate is €45 for again you can't justify charging more, especiallyas a commercial frim will be providing receipts etc

    The hourly rate typically depends on "how much your bringing to the party" so to speak...

    For 2D cad work, completing/updating drawings, i would of said in the region of €30 -> €40

    For 2D cad work which involves design + doing drawings i would of said €35 -> €45. As this role involves design you'll need some sort of idea as to what they require...

    If they require 3D Cad for completing/updating models, typically linked to a specific package which you have experience of (solid works, catia ect.. ) €45 -> €55

    If they require 3D Cad for designing models, typically linked to a specific package which you have experience of (solid works, catia ect.. ) €55 -> €65

    Thanks for the replies lads, this job would entail design meetings, drawings, further meetings & final drawings for an O&M submission & for future maintenance (all elec drgs).
    At the moment its looking like just under 100 drgs, 40% of which can be copied from 1 template but approx. 1hrs work in id/codes/typing etc. for each. Others are plans/P&ID's etc. I'm going to go with 200hrs at 50eur to begin with & drop to 45eur (9k) to get the job. All work will be evenings & Saturdays (for meetngs) & time will be an issue as O & M has to be submitted shortly.
    Client will be paying cash, I don't want to fleece him as their is the potential for further work but 1. It'll probably take longer and 2. I don't want to sell myself short either.
    He could not go to anyone else really as the amount of info required would need someone in our industry, ie not standard ind/res cabling contract, with a sound knowledge base of this sort of work.
