    Hey,

    Just rang Meteor to get them to switch on my APN Internet access for use with the AFT.

    they said 24 hours I need to call them back for them to activate this, is this right ?

    Cheers

    Doug

    There's a delay in work orders at the moment so it can take up to 24 hours for it to become active.

    you do. the APN is isp.mymeteor.ie instead of wap.mymeteor.ie. the only difference to the end user is that it costs 0.48c/KB instead of 2c/KB

    either is fine. all you need them to do is switch it on. if they try to do anything else tell them not to

    question: how do I know if my isp.mymeteor.ie is switched on??
    AFT texts cost me 2c a go, does that mean I dont have my APN on?

    i am using a sony ericsson w810i

    i don't think you can use the isp APN with sony ericssons for some reason. i seem to recall something about them not supporting it but try this anyway:

    first of all, if you never phoned them up to get it turned on, then its not turned on. call them and try to make the person understand that all you want is for them to activate it at their end and nothing else

    and having it turned on doesn't mean your phone is using it. enter the following into your phone:

    Menu->settings->connectivity->data comm->data accounts->new account->Gprs data

    Name: Meteor WEB

    APN: isp.mymeteor.ie
    Username:my
    Password:isp

    Press Save

    Press “Meteor WEB”
    Go to authentication
    Select only PAP

    Menu->setting->connectivity->Internet settings->internet profiles->new profile

    Name: Meteor WEB
    Connect using: meteor WEB

    Press save

    Go to meteor wap option->more->settings

    Connect using: meteor WEB
    Use proxy:No
    Username:my
    Password:isp

    Press save

    Select meteor WEB as the default profile

    Menu->setting->connectivity->streaming settings

    Connect using: meteor WEB
    Use proxy:No

    Menu->setting->connectivity->settings for java

    Select meteor WEB

    i'm not totally sure that will work but try it anyway. i'm going to try it out myself later when i have access to a w810

    Thanks Vimes I can get up to the point above but where is the "Meteor WAP" Option? Is it in the main menu? I found it there but when i click "more" there is no "settings"

    sorry that was supposed to say meteor web, wap shouldn't be written anywhere.

    and the option should be in: Menu->setting->connectivity->Internet settings->internet profiles

    when you click save after selecting Connect using: meteor WEB it should bring you there

    i'd assume your problem is the same and you were editting the meteor wap profile when you should have been editting the meteor web one :)

    also, play around with the authentication options, i don't know if they're right

    PS, they stand for packet switched and circuit switched

    btw, its a good idea to delete all the extra profiles so as not to confuse yourself. i've found people tend to have 5 or 6 copies of the settings downloaded when they're having problems and you spend ages editting one and then set another one as default.

    i'm not sure i follow. if you're using the meteor web settings you shouldn't need the meteor wap ones. are you just trying to get the internet working in general or specifically the web settings for the cheaper browsing? i can give you the correct wap settings no prob.

    the wap APN costs 2c/KB, the WEB/ISP APN costs 0.48c/KB

    sorry forgot to answer that. no, the mms are sent using a different internet profile called meteor mms which can't be made cheaper :(

    and you say you have the internet working, is this using the web settings? could you confirm for me which APN the default settings are using, wap.mymeteor.ie or isp.mymeteor.ie?

    edit: and what do you mean only 0.48c/KB? :D

    that's €4.80 a megabyte (as opposed to €10 using the wap settings)

    did you reset it again after changing the settings? and are you using the right settings? did you delete all the extra profiles?

    by reset i just mean select it again. probably won't do anything.

    i'm not sure what the prob is. maybe its an AFT problem. are you with o2? it was down today. what is the error you get

    or maybe this is what the guy meant who said the isp APN doesn't work on sony ericssons

    if the internet works with the settings and you've set the java settings to the same profile then i don't know what's wrong tbh.

    does it not say "there was a problem sending your message"? thats what it usually says on mine when it fails
