Any chance of an airsoft aeg review thread

    Lads,

I am looking around for an AEG at the moment. The problem is I am lost with the amount out there and the 1 Joule rule. What would be handy for alot of newbies like me is a thread where people who own AEG's fire a review of them on the thread in a uniform fashion. There should be no discussion etc.

    Example of Uniform Review.

    Manufacturer:
    Gun Name/Model:
    FPS:
    Ammo used:
    Build Quality:
    Electric/Gas:

    General Opinion:

If its a sticky it should stop all the "I was looking at XXXX AEG from YYY is it any good?" type posts.

Let me know what you think.

Got to arnies, they got everything in the reveiws section and easy to search.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,458 ✭✭✭✭gandalf

Ah but I'd like to hear Boardsies opinions !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,170 ✭✭✭✭ED E

    Or the ASI one.
    We couldnt be bothered.

    Nice attitude

Then again I suppose I should wait for the more mature members of the forum to reply!

    Speak for yourself m8 :p

Thanks liamo, my thoughts at the moment are as follows. All the guns I like the look of are above the 1 joule rule, some of them way above. What I am interested in is seeing the ones that people are using legally over here and then their opinions on them.

If its presented in a uniform fashion then it makes compairing them easier.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,877 ✭✭✭liamo333

Yeah I would like to see what people think of there guns and it only takes around an hour to do and is quite rewarding. Any chance of this o1s1n?

Actually there is a review section on www.irishairsoftassociation.com mabey we could just use that.

    Indeed!

It's a good idea. But there are a few problems.
Someone gets their first AEG. They have absolutely no experience with anything but this AEG. Therefore, they don't know what the standard is. Thinking their AEG is the bees knees, they give it an amazing review. When in actual fact, it's a piece of sh1te. Loads of new people run out and buy said piece of sh1t.

To avoid this, you could make it a rule that people read up a review on arnies or something similar before they post one of their own. Just so there is an experienced players opinion to go with their own newbie one.

On a side note, if you're interested in seeing what people are using legally, take a gander through the picture thread. Everything in there is legal.

Maybe your post shoud have been a PM to the moderator. No point asking the rest of us since it's not our decision. Of course, you could just start such a thread yourself.

Lethal was just stating general opinion. Why create a review when there are already dozens of reviews out there for the same AEG? No need to imply he is being immature.

Anyway...if such a thread does get started, here is my contribution (I changed the list a little.

    Retailer: UNCompany
    Cost: €241 with battery/charger...exc shipping
    Manufacturer: Tokyo Marui
    Gun Name/Model: AK Beta Spetsnaz
FPS with 0.2g BB's: 285 stock, drops to ~265-270 after a while which sucks.
Ammo Capacity: 250 standard mag, 600 hicap.
Build Quality: Solid with no creaking. ABS upper/lower reciever & handgrip. Everything else is metal.
Electric/Gas: Electric, with large type 8.4 battery in stock.
Aftermarket upgrades: Plenty, but hard to find scope mounts.
Overall opinion: Good AEG with slightly higher than average rate of fire. Sounds loud and has a little kick to it. Accurate for it's lenght as well. Gearbox not the most reliable in my personal opinion...die cast gears and nylon shims. Overall :9/10

    Retailer: UNCompany
    Cost: €122 with battery/charger...exc shipping
    Retailer: UNCompany
    Manufacturer: Tokyo Marui
    Gun Name/Model: Glock 18c non-blowback
    FPS with 0.2g BB's: 210
Ammo Capacity: 30 standard, 100 with hicap though I can onlyget about 75-80 bb's in my hicap.
Build Quality: Very solid. Metal slide, ABS body.
Electric/Gas: Electric, with 200 Mah 7.2 mini battery.
Aftermarket upgrades: It has a short picatinny rail under the barrel. Can also add an upper picatinny rail if required.
Overall opinion: Very fast full auto that sounds great. Single fire sounds not-so-good. Not as powerful as some gas pistols, but great for CQB. Trigger contacts are not fantastic in my opinion. The pistol no longer fires full auto if the trigger is fully pressed. Overall 7.5/10

o1s1n tbh I would take the opinions of those who are more established here on board more than I would someone new, but I do see where you're coming from.

Crazy a pm might have been more prudent but thats in the past now.

Stating "we couldn't be bothered" to someone who has a genuine interest in something is immature. It is condescending, flippant and unnecessary. If Lethal feels the need to defend himself let him do so. No need for you to be getting involved.

He is fully aware there are loads of reviews out there. What he was interesting in hearing were reviews from Boardsies.

gandalf, that is a great idea and o1s1n what you could do i ask people how many aegs they have already to allow us to qualify their statements, so if we see 1 of 1...we have a red alert.

    crazy...great reviews..straight to the point..

One option (For fear of having ANOTHER sticky), seeing as the review is uniform and quite small, would be to do an overhaul of the picture thread. People could submit these mini reviews and I could put them alongside the pictures they've posted of their gear.

    Just a thought.

Most people when they buy an AEG post up a thread telling what they think of it, so have a gander through some of the previous threads. I did one for my TM FAMAS, I'll have a search for it now.

If people do up some proper reviews then I'll stick them up on the IAA website. I'll do mine up good an proper and put it up tomorrow.

I chuckled at the irony as well.

I'm chuffed that you used my slogan in your sig. Although it's likely that someone else already thought of it long before I did.

You can be quite sure that an AEG is a piece of crap, if it breaks in peaces after the third scirm or if you are not able to hit something the size of a car within 10 meter distance. And you don't need much experience to find out that. Even if some part are not so good, there could be a way to fix it, if the rest is sturdy.

    Retailer: UNCompany
Cost: €340 (including shipping, high-cap, 2 batteries, TLP Expro charger and customs charges)
    Manufacturer: Tokyo Marui
    Gun Name/Model: P90 TR
    FPS with 0.2g BB's: 290 (drops to about 260-265 after a while)
Ammo Capacity: 68 standard mag, 300 hicap...(if your right handed you have the option of a 1000round box mag tho)
Build Quality: Solid with no creaking. Pretty much full ABS body except upper reciever (however the actual P90 is made almost entirely from Polymers so its just keeping true to the real gun!)
Electric/Gas: Electric, takes 8.4V 1400mah mini-type (can buy an extended buttstock to take 9.4V 1700mah J type batteries)
Aftermarket upgrades: Triple rail configuration means you can fit a myriad of aftermarket accessories, V6 type mechbox apparently the easyiest to upgrade outta all AEG's.
Overall opinion: Fully ambidextrous, looks and sounds great. Ergonomic and reliable, has never let me down. High ROF compared to most Marui guns. Bullpup configuration means long barrell for a short gun, meaning reliable outdoor and CQB performer. Only problem is you have to buy specific mag pouches for it (not really a problem at all tho!) Overall :9.5/10

    Retailer: WGCshop
    Cost: 400usd (including shipping)
    Manufacturer: G&G
Gun Name/Model: PM5A5 AEG, mp5a5 to you and me, they dont licence the logos
FPS with 0.2g BB's: 260 (rated 270-290 but thats at best)
Ammo Capacity: 200 hicap mag, i also bought standard mp5 plastic mags, some of them are so loose they dont need the release catch, maybe an issue with the G&G or the mags.dont have another mp5 to check but the original metal mag fits well
Build Quality: Solid all metal except foregrip and folding stock. heavy, its well built, no rattle, tight and the stock has a metal connector to body. foregrip is abs, i have great difficuly getting the small battery to fit without a bulge, not something you would do in the middle of a battle
    Electric/Gas: Electric, takes 8.4V ak mini-type, v2 mechbox
Aftermarket upgrades: anything you can put on an mp5. they provide 3 rails on foregrip(and a fourth top mounted for scope) but since the foregrip is abs, might not be a great idea to load it down too much
Overall opinion: really nice feel, looks the biz, feels very very sturdy, nice removable flash hider with 14mm tread for silencer and tread cover. no adjustment out of the box needed, u will need a sling as with all metal aeg's, certainly one of my favourites, really good for cqb, however if you are a lefty and need to change the selector switch the folding stock will be in the way as per them all tbf, Overall :8.5/10 (subtracted 1 because of the battery fit, or until i can squeeze it in)

Manufacturer: Vega Force Company (VFC) Taiwan
    Gun Name/Model: AKs74n
    FPS: 315-320 with .20 BB's
    Ammo used: Perfect .25's
    Build Quality: High
    Electric/Gas: Electric 9.6v minimum
Cost: $480 About 460-70 Euro with postage

    General Opinion:

Vega Force Company is building a catalogue aimed at Airsofters who want AEG's that resemble real steel counterparts as closely as possible. The VFC AKs74n is the second of the AK74 line released by them, the first being the AKs74u carbine. The AKs74n comes with the side mount for russian optics, it is exacting in construction and will take any real steel optics. VFC also offer the AKs74 for $40 less which is minus the scope mount. The body of the AKs74n is full metal construction with plywood furniture like it's real steel counterpart, there is no plastic whatsoever on the AEG's exterior. The front end strips down like the real AK74 and allows real AK74 wood furniture to be fitted with no modification. This is acheived due to the fact that it uses pins not screws to hold the parts together, again the same as the real steel. The folding skeleton stock is of rugged build, it locks into place with a nice clack and is sturdy both folded and deployed. This AEG also features a bolt carrier which retracts all the way back like the real thing as opposed to TM AK's and TM clones which only retract half way, the result again is a loud metal on metal clack when released. It features real steel trades, Izhmash factory. VFC also currently offer the only Bakelite mid-caps with the Izhmash factory markings, one included in the box, 120 rounds.

The battery compartment extends from the rear of the upper reciever right the way up to the end of the foregrip allowing a 12v stick battery to be inserted. The piston is high quality metal and can withstand 12v use for extended periods of time, the VFC AKs74u has been used in a year worth of skirmish at 12v with no wear to the piston. The gearbox has 7mm bushings, nylon unfortunatly, I would have liked to see them up the price by $20 and include steel bushings out of the box. The inner barrel is a high quality 6.04mm tightbore. The motor is something of a letdown, it is rated EG1300 and has VFC's crest stamped on it. An 8.4v battery will not supply the motor with enough power to pull the piston through. My motor failed when the pinion head came loose from the armature. This also resulted in the bevel gear being knocked out of it's bushing on the right side and the bushing being pushed out at an angle, probably by the pinion cavitating in the gearbox. I've reseated the bevel gear into the bushing with the help of a hammer and replaced the VFC motor with a Tokyo Marui one, the AEG is firing perfectly again. To be fair to VFC these motors have been running for well over a year in their AK's and I haven't heard of this type of failure so I was probably unlucky. The VFC motor isn't very efficient though, replacing it with a TM or Systema is quite common.

In the box: The AKs74n AEG and 1 VFC 120 round Bakelite mid-cap

Conclusion: The best looking and feeling AK74 on the market after the Inokatsu kits which will run you up to $1000, accurate and good rate of fire. Replace motor.
