    Forgot to post these pictures.
    Took them last weekend.

The globe was shot with my 300mm f/2.8
The flowers & peppers were shot with my 50mm f/1.8
The birds were shot with my 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III

    Awwww!

I missed this thread, things are moving too quick for me just now...

Those birdie shots are pretty damn good - was looking out our back window a while ago and wondering what length of lens I'd need to actually fill the frame - and you did, and still got the focus bang on!

I like the globe shot too, would go in a touch closer though and cut out the slice of background at the top, and some of the sea from the left.

I think the problem with the peppers is the shineyness, and the creamy background colour - if it was all green itd make the red of the peppers pop out more. A polariser will cut down on the glare, too.

And I spotted those flowers on your flickr too :) Theres something I like about it, even though the lighting is a bit harsh - on camera flash? If you could soften it down a bit that'd look great - even with a bit of desaturation going on, it'd work nicely. Composition works for me - just watch out for the orangey bit in the top right, burn it in of something to stop it drawing all the attention.

Love the two bird pictures - especially the robin. Well done.

Some really nice shots there. Not totally fond of the peppers but the Globe and the petals are great. Also the Robin is cool, I just wish it was in the snow!

the two birds really show the effects of DoF - pin sharp too i like them

the flowers as Julie said need a more subdued lighting as do the peppers.
    overall - well done

i must look at doing some still life myself soon

Don't worry, I get the same feeling. I'd love some advice, too. You'll get used to it.

Thanks for the advice, guys. Really appreciate it.

Elven, with regard to the peppers, I wanted to take them out into the garden (they're in pots) but it was lashing rain, so I chickened out.
Was the first shots I took with the 50mm f/.18, so I was feeling my way around. It's got a shorter diameter, so I didn't have a filter to fit it.

I'll crop the globe a bit more, to see what your suggestion produces.

With regard to the flowers, I'll take your adivce on board, but don't really like the image enough to spend much time on it.

As for the Robin, what can I say! He's a poser! :)

I love the bird shots. How far away were you from them? I've set up some feeders in my back garden to attract the birds. Ostensibly, it was for the kids to see them, but they have no interest, but I have been recalling the few times I went birdwatching as a teenager. I have a little family of blue tits, a couple of finches and a robin that come pretty regularly and I'd like to get some shots of them. Oh, the magpies too...

The globe is a nice shot too and the peppers shots could do with a bit more diffused lighting. Tasty though :)

I was about three metres away from the robin and 3.5 metres away from the sparrow. Had my 400D & 75-300mm lens, mounted on a tripod, as low to the ground as it would go. Then just had to be patient.
The birds are happy enough, once you don't make any sudden movements.
