Poor Skype Call Quality. Other Options?

    Any time I use skype I usually have poor call quality. Are there any other options for PC to phone, like skype but better quality?

    hi Zascar,

    You have to make sure that your internet connection is good enough, you need at least 100 Kb/s up and down.

    The call quality with a softphone is never really good. If call quality is an issue for you, then I advise you to look at proper VoIP providers such as Blueface ( www.blueface.ie ).

    They will provide you with a piece of hardware: IP Phone or ATA. With that, the call quality will definitely be better.

    they are sip based. excellent quality, much better than skype

    only thing is if you talk over someone you don't really hear them anymore. so its not quite as good as using an ordinary phone but close enough to it

    If you want to use a softphone get something like xten, and use it against blueface or voiptalk.

    You should then be able to choose a low bandwidth codec (e.g. G729 or GSM), which might help if you don't have a great internet connection.
