Provisional date for demo at barrage . . .

been talking to rory at barrage paintball and he's said he wants to involve airsoft on his site . as said before he's had talks with companies so far to no avail - airsoft isnt know/understood but is getting a folio of tech info on airsoft models and how they compare to paintball markers ect .

the fist of july he gave a provisional date to get EVERYONE who plays/has an interest to head up with their full gear to demonstrate for an insurance man .

regarding plans for the new barrage arena these guys have around 14 acres to develop and considering the profits in paintball compared to airsoft who thinks 2-4 acre zone'd be more than enough to play . . .

Where is Barrage, again? If it's close enough to Dublin then I'd defo be game for this.

I'm going away probs on 2nd July, so it'd be good to get a last minute skirmish in :D

Would be great to get to try out a new place. If I remember correctly, at that last meeting he said we'd have to sort out some biodegradable bbs.

The ones we use do degrade....after a few decades.

I actually feel guilty about it since I'm always trying to reuse/recycle stuff.

Seriously though. Biodegradeable bb's are only a little bit more expensive. Shouldn't be a problem.

ALl the stuff used in pred has to be bio aswell cause they're on a nature reserve.(Havent seen anything to shoot at:D )
    Bios arent a problem.

Is the place well hidden? Would he need to net the whole place up?

I know what you mean. I'd be environmentally conscious myself.

As far as biodegradable goes, the consensus seems to be that they're not fully.

Just found this on a forum

Excel biodegradable BBs are 40% polystyrene and 60% barium sulfate... and that makes it pretty much not biodegradable (polystyrene is definitelly not biodegradble.. and barium sulfate is a natural mineral) but it's not harmful either... total bummer... it makes it worse because barium sulfate is negligibly soluble.. (why didn't they make it out of a mineral that is soluble?)... and if barium sulfate isn't soluble, they will stick around for a very long time because polystyrene certainly isn't biodegradable... i guess they probably get around biodegradable laws because the barium sulfate is a natural element and is more than 50% of the composition... but the thing is that it will stay on the field for many many many years it sounds like

    Don't be mean :D

He's 12 I think and probably bigger than you.

As for the site, I have no idea what age would be allowed. I guess that is going to be up to the insurance people. Soooo...it would very much be in your interest to show up, talk to the insurance people and show them you are mature enough to play (I'm assuming you are of course. :p )

Age restriction is a difficult area. Most 12 year olds in my opinion would not make suitable players. However, I'd hate to set a hard limit of >12 as that would be unfair to the responsible 12 year olds who could play as well and as safely as an adult.

    Then again, what limit do you set....13, 12, 11, 10, 9?

    Ermm..off topic. Sorry.

    12 actually and i bet i'm bigger then ya :D 5'7" FTW

I think mabey set a limit of eg. 15 but if someone is tursted/interested enough an exception should be made.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 589 ✭✭✭Irish Trinity

i see where you are all coming from i think if they set a base age of 15 or whatever and for those who they think can be mature enough let them
and damn you crazy posted before me

unfortunately insurance policies dont usually allow leeway to judge people's maturity in that respect

Maybe one of those 12" TM mini M15's with the battery removed :D

My five year old is army-mad at the moment, but he's never even seen one of my AEG's or pistols. He doesn't even know they exist. I can only imagine how he'd react if he saw me in camo gear and hefting an M15.

OP says 1st July. Does a shemagh and goggles count as a full face mask considering it covers my entire head?

If the shemagh has been certified as providing adequate ballistic protection against airsoft bb's, then it will be fine I'd imagine.

Of course, there isn't a chance of hell that the shemagh has been certified for anything other than keeping you warm. ;)

You really don't like full face masks do you?!

I don't think that would be possible up there at the moment no. I remember at the meeting we had he said we'd have to wear facemasks in the beginning. Might change after a while though.

I'll try and make it down if I've nothing else on. Can't promise anything though as I don't drive, so it'll also depend on time & bus / train times.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,877 ✭✭✭liamo333

I wear a 4mm neopreme mask and goggles. I actually think it is alot safer than a full face because there is no gap for the bb's to get in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

except for the fact that it's right next to your skin and you still feel a fair bit of the impact?

love my paintball mask, so comfortable and never fogs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,877 ✭✭✭liamo333

You definatly feel the impact but there is no pain.

Its not that I dont like them(I dont by the way, but you gotta do what you gotta do! ;) )...I just dont ever see myself being bothered to order one!

1st of july is a provisional date set on which ruairi from barrage'll try get an insurance man down fer a look , if the date changes should know a week in advance at least he said . . .

definatley think solid full face protection makes a good impression . . . 20 quid fer point blank protection . . .

I'm supposed to be working that sunday, but i think i can get the time off, surprised that the insurance guy would be there on a sunday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

not to be a cheeky bugger, but im assuming he's not gonna charge us any walk-on fees for the day given that we're demo'ing for the insurance dude right?

(kinda seems like a silly question, but better to make sure)

I seriously doubt he would charge any fees. It's not in his interest to do so.

That would be cheeky of HIM. hmm. I never thought of that to be honest. If he is, I wouldn't be able to go. Can barely scrape enough together for the Predator trip as is.

I'm sure somebody will have spare face protection for ya to borrow. Combat gear isn't essential (although it is beneficial). I'll probs be wearing jeans and a hoodie......
