Just wondering if anyone has done the ACCA Diploma in Financial Management or if anyone has any views on the diploma.

I'm working in banking & have a good grasp of balance sheets/ p&l's/ working capital/ cashflows etc but want a more indept knowledge.

I don;t want to do full accountancy exams. I don't really want to commit to full ACCA's, already have 5 yrs of college, QFA's & other certs, the DipFM is only a year which makes it attractive.

Has anyone done or considered this course?

    Thanks

Afraid not, but my understanding is that its for non-finance managers to get an understanding of finance.

    Hi There,

Bit late of a reply! But if you're still interested in the DipFM I have the full set of 2007 texts for both modules, together with the revision kits, CDroms, study cards etc. I took the course but cannot complete it. Anyhow I will sell you the whole set unused (apart from one book) for half price.

    Cheers,

    John C

A few years ago I used to lecture the DipFM as it is now called. The class was always full of engineers, scientists, solicitors, bankers etc.. who had their career stalled because they were unable to do cash flows and budgets and understand the fundamental of running and managing a business. Anybody from self employed people to barristers, a medical doctor and bar managers attended the course. It is really a management qualification while not committing you to a full MBA and having a more practical application. I don’t teach it any more but I still think it is very practical and useful and most of the students seemed to have been promoted by the end of the course!

    Hi,

Has anyone looked into doing the DipFM by distance learning?
In particular purchasing the material, study stuff etc. (from bpp.com) and registering for the exams separately.

I live in the West and the local inst. schedule the course over 1.5 years which is too long for me

Any feedback on this would be appreciated.

    Hello itsm2

I signed up to do the course last summer by distance learning with BPP in UK but did not complete as took a change in career direction. The materials are very thorough and if you are good at self-motivation the course should be no problem to you. All you have to do is register with ACCA (costs about €50) and then pay the exam fees as and when you take the tests. ACCA also have an online learning environment and message boards for students designed to encurage mutual assistance in completing the course.

I have the full 2007 edition of all the course materials in as new condition for sale on Gumtree if you're interested, can post them to you.

How does the DIP FIM compare/contrast to the finance modules of an MBA ?

Perhaps of interest to those who are taking or have taken ACCA Dip FM at Dublin Business School:

I set up a group on www.linkedin.com so that classmates could connect and network with each other. Some alumni have joined to. If you completed the DIP Fm at DBS and want to "link in" also search for the group on the site by relevant keywords or PM me
