Hot weather & head colds..

Started off with a sore throat yesterday and it's developed into a full blown head-cold. Feel like absolute crap! Probably a late night out last night didn't help.

Stuck in a stuffy room with a fan on full and i'm still boiling.

Overheard a woman ahead of me in a shop today saying she had one and the bloke behind the counter said "it's going around!"

Anyone else prone to them in hot weather? I can go an entire year without even a hint of a cold and as soon as i'm in hot weather, they tend to bring them out in me.

Have one too. More sinus than anything though. Probably from going from hot office to air conditioned car.

More sinus issues than the cold so something spicey like orange or firecracker chicken to clear it out tonight I think, normally works quite well. :)

Healthy for most of the year - but am prone to getting sick during exam times ... could never explain it. Last year I had a chest infection during my 5th year exams, horrible - and we had a heat wave then if memory serves me right.

    Too extravagant for me!

I had a curry Pot Noodle earlier thinking it may help - felt even more ill half way through it! ;)

    Its always "going around".

Science is good but still has not developed a proper cure for the common cold :(

Isn't it because there are so many variations of the cold?

Had a massive allergic reaction to something there last week and the ensuing 'cold' is only starting to shift now... headaches are the worst.

Even despite people who keep telling me:

"Get Uniflu... that'll shift it. It'll knock ya out.. that's the only thing but it'll clear it up like nothing else"

None of those flu tablet treatments work on me - suffering for a week with it and drinking loads of water is the only cure.

    never worked for me either.

Solpadeine(soluable) and Rubex(vitamin c) works a treat for me.Doesnt cure it but certainly helps.
Do you suffer with hay fever too, well the pollen levels are through the roof atm and plus its to get more humid next week which will make your cold even more crappy if you still have it.

    Thankfully i don't!

I can just imagine sitting all day in a humid office with a head cold next week... dreading it!

Am on Lemsip Cold & Flu tablets though i know they won't work... might give the Solpadeine and Rubex a go!

Yup,nothing worse sitting indoors with the sniffles when its warm out.

Word of warning,Solpadeine and Rubex tastes terrible together.

just over it, got it in my eyes too (angry red and sore) - woke up 3 mornings in a row with eye lids glued together... not pleasant!

a bowl of steaming water and a towel is best for headcolds, really clears the head out

is solpadeine and rubex not basically uniflu? a painkiller and some vitamin c?
the only thinkg that kics a cold for me is trying to keep my temp constant, whether im warm or cold.
i think the only rhing that gives me head colds is temperature change, whether its hot to cold in winter or vice versa in summer...

Throat feels like it is lined with barbed wire and head is clogged up.

Umm....guys, have any of you considered the fact that you may have a mild pollen allergy? The grass pollens are abnormally high this year and the wind off the continent is carrying a lot of pollen too. My childhood hayfever has flared up a bit the last few days of good weather...it's nearly indiscernible from a cold when it's at it's peak...

Hey, felt exactly the same at the start of summer, and the cold just wouldn't go, didn't shift at all. Told the pharmacist and he put my on hayfever tablets and I'm grand now! So what seems like a cold may be just an allergy!

The other half has an upper respiratory infection at the moment, which only flared up the other day. The hot weather is making him feel so much worse.

Its a combination of pollen, dust and atmosperic pollution i reckon thats causing all this.In the winter when the air is crisper i never get head colds or sore throats.Walking through town with bus fumes belching everywhere is much worse in the summer.

Shane and I both have a really bad dose of it - he is on antibiotics as it got to his chest, both are on Benylain 4 flu - have had it a week and it is still not shifting :(

yeah i got it too. left work early on friday and have been sleeping for most of the weekend.

my cough is worse than anything else really. my head also feels like its full of puss

I have it too! Hot weather not helping either, nor last night's drinking session.

High strenght vitamin C, a good night's sleep and some honey and oranges does the trick for me.

i dunno, i was on the lemsip tab's last week when i got a bitch of a cold (damn you 'class bonding weekends', sleeping in close quarters with sick people *shakes fist*) and it cleared it up really quick. could be psychosomatic but im not one to complain. :)

to the OP..i always get colds when it changes season really quickly or if its unseasonably warm (we're going into winter right now and our may was pretty warm so everyone was getting sick)..
