    Hi guys, looking for some advice. Im wondering how the following tv tuner card would work here in Ireland :

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hauppauge-WinTV-NOVA-T-500-Digital-Freeview/dp/B000I1RHWA

    ( or is there a better solution for Irish consumers....? )

    My setup:
    Dell Dimension c521 pc
    Amd Athlon x2 5000 Dual Core processor
    2 Gig of ram
    320gb hardrive and 500gb external hardrive
    Xp media center 2005
    256mb x1300 graphic card
    Dell 2007wfp monitor

    i also have a sky+ box in the room

    What kind of functionality would i get if i bought the tv tuner card....?

    1. What channels would i pick up here in Ireland - do you have to have an external aerial...?

    2. Could i connect my sky+ box and back up my recordings on my pcs hardisk?

    anything else a noob would need to know about pc tv tuner cards....?

    Any advice appreciated.....

    The WinTV NOVA-T 500 has;

    2x DVB-T class tuners - this is for digital over the air broadcasts, currently the only broadcasts of this kind in Ireland are the trials in Dublin, see the terrestrial TV forum for more info. The dual tuners would allow you to record and watch two different programs at the same time.

    With that card you would not be able to record analogue TV or the output from a set top box like Sky+.

    If you want all your bases covered then you need a hybrid tuner like this WinTV HVR-1300 which has;

    An analogue tuner for traditional over the air broadcasts.

    A digital DVB-T tuner for future DVB broadcasts.

    Analogue inputs in the form of composite and s-video which is what you would need to hook your Sky box up to in order to record it's output. You cannot record & watch different programs at the same time with just one Sky box due to the limitation of it being a set top box (unless you use more than one STB).

    Any advice appreciated.....

    Another point - Amazon won't deliver that unit to Ireland.

    I've a load of Amazon vouchers and I've been trying to order a range of different cards for the last few weeks and they wouldn't deliver any of them, even markeplace sellers. I think it is something to do with the WEEE directive.

    I ended up buying books and games instead. :D :mad:
