    hello

My head is wrecked for 3 days straight and am considering head butting a wall v. close to me so... help would be really appreciated right now.

History: i have an abit kn8 sli mobo which when i bought year and a half ago crashed every once in a while. after a bit of research found that the inbuilt network card was the cause and a common fault. so my brother was able to disable wat ever feature on the card that was causing this and hay presto it stopped crashing.

The problem: After just buying the PS3 he thought it would be good to have a network up and running for the vids n music so he could watch them through the PS. after setting it up the crashing started back straight a way. he fiddled with a few more settings( and now the part i cant handle) and the internet wont come through at all. it works on every other comp in the house but mine.
SO to recap the mobo keeps crashin and now the internet has stopped. ive looked all the firewalls and system restore wont work so.......

    Solution: ????? help greatly appreciated

Not much to go on there IMO.
I'll assume all the PCs in the house connect through the same router...

I'd have a look at one of the other PCs in the house and see what settings they're using compared to what's set up on your PC.
Go to a working PC and do: Start > Run > cmd (enter), then at the console run ipconfig... write the settings down, then do the same on your PC... the IP address should be similar (but not the same), the subnet mask and default gateway should be the same on both PCs.

If things look vastly different on your PCs ipconfig output, then I'd say have a look in 'My Network Places' / 'View network connections' ... right-click the connection to the router and go to 'Properties'... in there, you can select 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)' and click properties.
Now this is where everything you saw in ipconfig is set... it'll either be left on auto or 'use the following...'
If you're seeing everything has been set manually, you might look for errors/inconsistancies (using the working PCs ipconfig as a reference)... or if it's left on auto, I'd probably just leave it alone... as if you can't get these settings automatically sent to you by the router, then you have other problems.

If, on the other hand the ipconfig on your PC looks ok, try pinging the default gateway (likely the router).
    Start > Run > cmd
    ping 192.168.?.? (whatever it is)
If you've gotten back 4 "Reply from" responses, then I'd say you're alright in this whole general area and you can forget everything I've just said. :p
