It can be a fine line between spamming and offering useful info sometimes. Some forums, like After Hours, have no place for any advertising. Others, like surfing & archery, are quite specialised and it's a little different. This is one of them, with that in mind the blanket no advertising rule was technically removed from the charter a few months ago. Although the last thing we want is crap ads cluttering us up, the idea was that regular users could keep each other informed about what they are offering or looking for.

HOWEVER, spamming will not be tolerated. This is a community of like minded individuals with the same passion, NOT an advertising board. If you crash land with a blatant ad after your first few posts it will be deleted and you could be banned. Everyone has been on line long enough at this stage to know that forums have charters. So there isn't really any excuse.

Paligulus has suggested a thread for people to advertise their studios. I think it's a great idea. That way if someone comes on looking for a studio they can be re-directed there. I think we should make a new section in the charter with the rule that it is the ONLY place that studios, engineers, producers re-mixers etc. are allowed offer services and that if someone posts looking for a service they are given a reply of a link to that thread and the post is then locked.

What say ye oh regulars of recording? Speak now or forever hold your peace...

I think its a great idea too. As you say, it'd be good for the forum as long as people bear in mind that all of boards.ie is designed as a community, therefore the opportunity to pimp a studio/whatever should be offset by good contributions to the forum, even if its only a handful of other posts. We had one instance of shilling recently, an Smod swooped in and sitebanned the same person who had registered 3 times just to pimp a studio. Cos that sort of thing's not on!

So having said that I'd give this idea my thumbs-up! Maybe editing and stickying the existing pimp-my-studio would be a good place to start?

Sticky it, give em their say and let 'em link...anything after that is gratuitous spamming!
