    Hi,

I'm very close to purchasing a black macbook, 2gb RAM with 2.16 processor, I have some questions:

I noticed that the MBP's have been upgraded processor-wise, does anybody know if this will happen with the macbooks too?

also, I'm typing this post from my sony vaio, which is a hoover, ridiculously noisy and has 20 mins battery....the most important thing for me is that the macbook will be silent,

are there any owners of the mac i'm getting out there who can weighin about how silent/ or noisy their machines are

any advice that you guys could give would be much appreciated

the macbooks were updated 3 weeks ago = just before the pro line

    http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/

youll be fine when using it on a desk with some breathing room under and around the latop (it'll hover in the 30s) - if your using it in bed sitting on top of a duvet it wont take more than an hour for the temp to rise to 55/60C and then the fans will kick for a few mins to it drop it back down into the 40s

if you use a set of headphones you wont notice any background noise from the fans

well, it'll be on a desk, well ventilated, it'll be on for extended periods of time, i just want to make sure that i can have it on in the room without being overly aware that its on, as is the case with my computer now

Well if the new macbooks are anything like my old iBook you won't hear a thing, mine is practically silent except when the fan kicks in which is almost never. The macbooks get quite a bit hotter but afaik they're much the same, so you shouldn't hear the fan too much. Macs are probably the quietest computers you can get.

got my macbook 2.16Ghz, 2GB Ram (black) in the US about 2 and a half weeks ago and I gota say its almost silent, the only excepton is if I run something really CPU intensive for while then the fans will kick in.

Other then that I;d hardly know its on....although the light gives it away ;)

I'd highly recommend it to be honest,

great, thanks for the replies, put my mind at rest,

@cabaal...there is one question i cant find an answer to google about the black macbook....is the remote that comes with it also black, or the standard white?

edit: found answer....power cord and remote are white

I'm a bit like yourself in that I too have a VAIO, one of the noisiest laptops I've ever owned -and yes, the battery life is appalling.

Have gone Mac for two years now and owned a MacBook from the day it was released. It's as quiet as a mouse and this is very important to me as I have other passions like music on SA-CD and can't see the point in listening to beautifully reproduced music if there is other extraneous noise around. Thus the VAIO can't even be tolerated in the same room.

But you would never hear a peep from the MacBook except for situations like right now, exactly as described above where I'm posting from bed, on a duvet and the fans have kicked in.

I find that a manuscript pad underneath my iBook seems to keep it cooler than having it on my lap or duvet. You could also use a tray, or cardboard - basically, just anything flat & rigid.

I have a black macbook 2.16GHz and 1 GB ram. Very quiet unless I run something CPU-intensive when the fans kick in. Not very loud and pretty infrequent.

    Lovely machine.

Surely if you love them that much you should be playing SACDs on a proper sacd player?

Now y'see , I would have read that like he was in a room working away on the laptop while playing SACDs on his SACD player .......:D

Go to the top of the class!

Course I am: I have two SA-CD players. A Pioneer universal player (for DVD-A as well) and a PS3 (which is in fact a superb CD player too).

Nothing beats my Linn Sondek natch......

Do laptops even have SACD drives?
    Do computers?
