British Airways to raise fuel price surcharges
    08/06/2007 - 13:58:48

British Airways is to increase the fuel surcharge for passengers on its long-haul flights from next week because of oil price rises, it was announced today.

Short-haul flights are not affected, but the surcharge on long-haul flights of less than nine hours will rise from £33 (€48) a flight to £38 (€55) from next Wednesday.

The surcharge on flights longer than nine hours will rise from £38 (€55) a flight to £43 (€63).

British Airways commercial director Robert Boyle said: “The cost of fuel has again risen significantly in recent weeks. Unfortunately, we have little choice but to pass on some of this extra cost to our customers.

“Fuel continues to be our second largest cost and we expect our fuel bill this year to be more than £2bn (€2.94bn).

“The price of oil continues to be extremely volatile.

“Therefore, we believe the fuel surcharge continues to be the most transparent way for our customers to understand what they are paying and allows us to adjust the direct cost to our customers appropriately, whether that is increasing or reducing the fuel surcharge as we did on some of our long-haul flights in January.”

I find it a disgrace that the Airlines still get away with the fuel surcharges. They should start to calculate properly and offer all inn prices straight away.

These days you get a flight for 125 Euro each way and end up paying 720 all in, before you know it.

If I book a flight today, and the flight prices drop by the time my flight is scheduled... will they give me money back?

You never see them decrease the prices when oil goes down.
