Nice....but sorry I have to say this......seriously ugly mags.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,314 ✭✭✭Fiach Dubh

Bakelite Mags are an aquired taste. I used to not be into them myself but now I couldn't consider using a 74 without them. And they don't look that bright in reality, they appear like that in photos like the Beta reciever looks silver in photos.

jeeze dude that looks the biz...

love the nade launcher...just one thing -- whats going on with the strap. is the clamps on either side? wont that put sideways pressure on your launcher? i know you wont use it much and i suspect it to do with the launcher sights....

    once again, congrats...looks excellent...

Seriously, are those the badass 180 odd round 'nades?

How much firepower do you need :D????

Regarding the sling, the reason it's attached on either side is that when the stock is folded they are both on the same side. It's not a tac sling just a shouldering one. The AKs74n is a paratrooper version so it's designed to sling well during jumps. No it doesn't put any strain on the grenade launcher as it's not attached to it ;)

How much firepower do I need? A lot! :D

The 40mm grenades don't stick out of the launcher they go all the way in, I just had it sticking out in the picture :)

After seeing the mags up close, they look better than I thought.

And those nades looked very cool as well.

    I'm jealous now.

I only got to fire one grenade yesterday but here goes. Loading them is a pain in the arse, takes ages :p Important! You load the grenade with gas BEFORE you load the BB's. Then you just shove 10 BB's down each of the 12 vents and shove them down with a screwdriver, an O-ring holds them in place. The reason why I only got to use one is that propane is too powerfull in the summer heat and it was leaking back out the seal  2 nades wouldn't hold the charge at all, 2 slowly leaked the gas with an audiable hiss, 2 held the charge. I took the to loaded ones out with me in the first game, one in the launcher and the other in my pocket.

During the first game my team was on defence at the tanker, a teammate and myself got pinned down by the tanker, 3 lads attacking us from the rocks. Lying prone I pointed the launcher slightly above their heads and pulled the trigger *POP* 120 rounds went sailing out and they all dropped into cover :D Unfortunatly I'd miss judged the range and they fell slightly short of the target. I dropped the used shell out and loaded the one from my pocket, jumped up and charged the rocks firing from the hip with my AK. About half way there, right out in the open, I pulled the grenade launcher trigger, missfire  Without thinking too much I charged right to the rock face and eliminated the entire ambush force *Applause* :D

I think the second grenade failed to fire either the propane had very slowly leaked out or more likely the gas chamber wasn't set properly. I can't seem to be able to reset the grenades which needs to be done after each firing, pushing the priming cap down untill you hear a click is supposed to do it but I'm not getting a click from any of them. I've looked everywhere for a grenade guide, you get no instructions with them and everyone on the net seems to assume that everyone knows everything about them :( If anybody finds a 40mm grenade guide please let me know.

sounds like they're fun when they work alright...

i reckon if you open up the ones that leaked, put some grease on the seals (vaseline would do the job), that should fix the leak, had the same problem with some of my m9 mags.

get yourself a speedloader btw, itll make it a hell of a lot easier to load the grenades

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,314 ✭✭✭Fiach Dubh

Opening them sucks, there's 12 ballbearings in each one that are a nightmare to reset :( I have 3 speed loaders, 2 plunger and 1 tube, none of them fit.

Nice kit, but it's all very plasticy looking no?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,314 ✭✭✭Fiach Dubh

Plasticy? There's only 2 plastic things in that picture. The Bakelite mags which are plastic on the real steel versions and the pistol grips of the ak74 and GP30 which are also plastic on the real steel. Everything else is metal and wood.

Pictures sometimes do a terrible injustice to AEG's, and this is one of those times.

    Total cost?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,314 ✭✭✭Fiach Dubh

The weight isn't as bad as you'd think as the balance of the rifle is excellent.

    Total cost for the loadout so far;

VFC aks74n 500 Euro including tax and postage.
Classic Army GP30 grenade launcher and 6 grenades and postage 225 Euro.

When I get my Kobra sight I'll have joined the 1K club :D

225? Is that the launcher, grenades and postage was a total of 225 Or was postade 225?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,314 ✭✭✭Fiach Dubh

225 is the total cost for the launcher and grenades including the postage. Actually a very good price as the grenades are $46 each, got 6 for half price :)
