As the title (possibly) says, :o , it is too difficult to understand the conversations that take place in Teach na nGealt.

When setting up such a forum was first discussed, this was my main fear, & it's been realised:- unless you're practically fluent, you can't participate.

It's very intimidating, to say the least.
You've got fluent people writing such complex sentences, that some of the words look like Welsh placenames!!!

It's really not likely that someone like me is going to pipe up in the middle of such a conversation to type something like:-
    "Tá ocras orm anois"

    You know what I mean.

I was really excited at the beginning that there would now be an Irish forum, (that's actually alive) where I can practice my irish.

In truth, I don't even visit there now as it's so demoralising.

I'm not saying al those people really good at irish to stop being really good, :p , I'm just highlighting an issue that I'm experiencing, & I expect there are quite a few like me.

I'd love to be able to talk just a bit of basic Irish & not feel intimidated by my lack of knowledge, but I don't think such a place exists.

BTW, I'm not suggesting that people are trying to intimidate, they're just SO good, lucky buggers!! :D

I've started a thread in Teach na nGealt 'Gaeilge shimplí le do thoil' - 'Simple Irish please' if you would like to have a conversation where the vocabulary and sentence structures will be kept straight forward.

Hi Chrissie. I understand your concerns. But Teach na nGealt is a big forum with space for lots of threads on different topics with different people of different fluency. If you feel you want a thread there that caters for the less fluent, all you have to do is set it up and specify as such. They won't bite, really.
