All my .exe icon files are now Ink files

This happened to me before and I did a system restore and I got it back

I have tried 3 different dates and the same thing keeps happenning

I am running ad-aware and Ad-watch and I think these have fecked up the registry

When I start up and press start the programs seem ok then Ad-aware kicks in and states
registery change detected and buggers it up

I stopped ad-watch running at start up and still no joy ?

Is there any way of fixing this ?

Seems to be Adaware alright, this page has a solution for you:->

Sounds like you renamed your Program Files directory and now your shortcuts can't find their respective exe files.

What do you mean when you say your exe's are no lnk's? If you're looking at stuff in your start menu or desktop, they more than likely *are* .lnk's.

I hate when this happens, last time his happened to be I installed a program call hijackthis, anyways, nothing serious, i found i program on the interview that fixed this problem in seconds. I can't remember what the program is called but i'm sure you'll find it in a google search.

    Try this OP

Please download the self-extracting version of HijackThis from here:

    HijackThis_sfx download

    Save HijackThis_sfx to your desktop.

Double-click the file then click the Unzip button. Then close the Self-Extractor window.

Using My Computer/Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files\HijackThis and double click on HijackThis.exe to run it. If you would like to make a shortcut for your Desktop so it's more easily accessable, right click HijackThis.exe and choose Send To > Desktop (create shortcut).

Please run the extracted HijackThis.exe from now on. Delete any copies of HijackThis.zip that you have saved.

Open HijackThis and click Do a system scan and save a log file. Copy the entire contents of that log and post it here

    Hi

Managed to fix it by googling. Found I had to d/l a text file & open it with regedit and it imports it in and fixes it

Now I have a square box and have to press ok to start but it works ok?.
