Helping to build a small server room which currently has lots of p.c's servers ,printers etc. I have put in 2 racks with fans but problem is the fans will be blowing hot air around because the room is so warm.

Anyone know of a place to get a cold air blower that could be used in a server room environment , any tips , hints etc. greatly appreciated.

I once had a lockable rack with four fans on top blowing into it, it was geting too hot so we made a hood to go over the top and ran 4 inch flexible pipe from the hood to a vent nearby so that the air blown into the rack was outside air. If the air being sucked in is already too hot to make a difference then you need a serious piece of air cooling kit.

If the room is already too warm, then additional fans won't do much, especially on highly populated racks, as the heat rises behind the rack, rather than in it.

If you have access to a window for a hose then a standard portable air-conditioner (~10k BTU) should do the job at a minimum outlay... expect the hassles associated with these though: emptying/cleaning and a short life-span if used 24-7.

Ideally though and if there's any chance of putting more kit in that room in the near future, a permanent solution with proper extraction should be sorted out sooner rather than later.

For portables.. B&Q or Argos :) (seriously) Alternatively look at renting from HSS or the like, as if it's only a short-term thing it may work out handier.

Yeah, I pass HSS on thomas st. on my way to work every day and they have deals advertised for renting aircon units. Expect them to be pricier in the summer mind you.

If you can just get air from inside to go outside, and air from outside to go inside, that should solve the warm room problem or at the very least drastically improve things. If there are two windows in the room, one fan sucking in and one blowing out may suffice.

Edit: before any outlay, you should check the actual operating temps on the boxes. Heat isn't as huge a problem as you might think. A warm ambient temperature will only raise the operating temperature by a linear amount (i.e. 5 degree raise in ambient = 5 degree raise in chip temp).
