If I remember correctly there used to be like one a week where a game was picked and the we had a week to post our best score.

What happened to those ? Anyone interested in bringing it back ?

Or maybe a "Game Of The Week" ? i.e. a retro game. one a week. Then people post comments on it etc... ?

Hmm, sounds like a good idea. I'm up for it, what game would we play though?

It was discussed again recently but fell to the wayside due to a lack of interest (again), please see the last two links in my sig for details.

So you can beat us in some obscure Jap shooter ;)

How about ... Excite Bike for the NES. There are good NES Emus around.

I've never played it but I have heard its a classic.

I'm actually quite crap at anything other than R-type or some of the saturn shmups that nobody without a saturn can play.

We could just pick a Cave shmup since they are are really good and great for high scores. I haven't really played any of them more than once.

The Retro board seems to have gotten a bit of a revival lately, why don't we just pick a random very popular game like Bubble Bobble (although the emulation isn't quite perfect there) and see how it pans out.

Everyone likes Bubble Bobble (I think) so I'd be up for that.

I'm on for some bubble bobble goodness. Mame ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,406 ✭✭✭brianon

Mame? sure. MAME version. I know BB had some changes in the last year but to keep things simple I guess the version of MAME you use shouldn't matter.

I'm up for BB, still running good on MAME. I love playing that game. Play with only 1 credit to make it more interesting, usually how I play my games anymore.

You only get one credit in single player anyway :) As far as I know there is still a problem with the extend bubbles since one letter never appears in mame, but as long as everybody uses mame we should be alright.

*Slaps Head* DUH!! Been a while I guess! I've got versions of Mame as far back V0.90 which I think is the best version. I only use the latest to play Virtua Racing and Neo Geo roms above 2002. There's always Raine too if anyone is too picky on the Mame flaws.

Speaking about Bubble Bobble, has anyone every cleared this game in single player?? I can clear this with brother as we find in some of the later levels you need a second player to pass?

The game is very cheeky in that you need a second player to clear the game. Never finished it myself. Thought I got really far with a mate but found out it was only 47 out of 100

I'd like to see the person who clears any Metal Slug game on 1 credit............hmm, more than likely some japanese whizz kid did.

It's not all that hard really. There's far tougher games out there. Give Gradius III a go.

I'd be up for this also, been playing BB on MAME32. :)
