...but is it a temporary move so they can say "installation now free, save €45" the following month?

    I doubt it

....... from reading other threads, it seems that the sky+ €15 sub is to be dropped from july 1st, so is it a case of giving with one hand and taking with the other?

can anyone clarify if the €15 is being dropped
    for sure...

The man who told me about a month back to there was going to be an install fee of Eur45 was the same guy who told me the Eur15 was going to be dropped.
It is a very strange move on Sky's behalf, or are they just gearing up to using Sky+ box's as standard boxes?

I was just about to upgrade to Sky+ tonight but the sales rep couldnt say for sure if the €15 was being dropped in July for existing customers.

I'll just have to wait till July to find out.

The Sky+ fee is definitely being dropped on 1 July. It was one of the main things mentioned in the last Sky Email sent to retailers.

I must say that the €45 install fee wasn't expected. Though, while potential customers may not be pleased, it might help retailers, as they'll be getting €45 up front for install, rather that waiting for Sky to reimburse them.

I wonder if somebody has no phoneline, will that mean an additional €37.50 on top of the €45 install? I would presume so.

well that's a right kick in the ............ teeth.

was thinking they may have scrapped the sky+ sub, and leave everything else as is, but to add another charge somewheres else :(

From the sky site. It states that the subscription is free for all sky tv customers from July 1st.

As far as I can make out with that statement it is only satisfying new customers. The likes of me who have it a long time will still have to suffer? Am I reading this wrong?

Oh wait now I read it wrong!! Hurray! Hurray!

norbert64 what are you worrying about, the 45 euro is only a once off, the 15 euro subscription was a recurring subscription.

so what is the total all in everything included and nothing forgotten to be mentioned price for existing bog standard Sky customer to upgrade to Sky+ not living in Eastern Hibernia

Wonder is this move a result of prevalence of alternative DVRs with no sub required.
Read that in US they are already thinking they may have to rewrite their marketing theories as so many people now DVR and skip commercials

Install price for sky-hd is currently €75. Will this be dropping to €45? The current price of €524 is a bit much.

So does anyone know the price to upgrade to Sky+ (ie to get a + box to replace a digibox) for an exiSting Sky customer on a standard basic sub (no movies or sports)?
Is installation a non-negotiable fee whether you actually require installation or not?
Does it mean a new contract or simply a continuation of an existing if the Sky+ sub is going?

Someone mentioned secondhand Sky+ boxes, but dont they require activation by Sky to enable recording? How do you go about this with a secondhand box here?
All these questions are for Ireland and UK info is not really of much use or relevance to me.

    Errata Emendo

Im not sure what Irish Sky site is being referred to but as far as I can see the official site still quotes the "old" prices
    http://www.sky.com/portal/site/ireland/products/equipment/comparison
Still doesnt give me a price for upgrading to Sky +

Anyone care to list the alternative site

    Guys

I only see the free Sky+ for UK, not ROI (unless they didnt update the Paddy's webpage). I know Sky have bigger competition in UK with NTL etc, so they may need to be a bit more competitive in UK to give out Sky+ ???

It would be nice indeed if free.

    ROI T&C
    ======

Sky+ subscription is free while you subscribe to two or more Sky Premium channels i.e. Sky Sports 1 and 2, Sky Movies 1 and 2 or you take a HD subscription, otherwise €15 per month.

    UK T&C
    ======
From 1st July, Sky+ subscription free for all Sky TV customers

They have sent out letters to the current subscribers saying that it will be free.

And from what I gather here, the installers have also been told the same.

I am getting Sky installed here next week (scheduled for Monday) so will ask the installer about it.

Might see if he will stick a quad LNB up insted of the single as I would be very interested in upgrading to Sky+. The main reason I didnt order it was I couldnt see the reason for paying €15 a month. But if its going to be free from July I would love to upgrade to it.

I could be reading it wrong, but doesn't that chart state that standard installation for SKY+ and SKY HD is free only if you subscribe to multiroom? Otherwise it's €75 euro?

I was previously a SKY subscriber but cancelled about 6 months ago. Just got a HD TV and now want to get SKY HD. So, this will cost €449 + €75 installation charge + package subscription + €15pm HD subscription?

Yes. It's too much in my opinion - €524 initially and then €81 per month (if you are on Sky World package).

Maybe if the HD box cost €300 and the monthly sub for HD was dropped (even for those with premium packages) I would get it. Not at the moment though - it might be great, but it's very hard to justify on the wallet.
