Anyone here using either of these heads? if so are they worth the expense and as solid as they look with a large telephoto lens on them?

I saw the Wimberley Gimbal Head used at an air show once, before I even knew what it was. Definitely impressive, in terms of rotation. I used my 300 f/2.8 on a Manfroto tripod, at the weekend and you really have to be careful that you don't tip it over. Don't often have cause to mount it on a tripod but a Wimerley would definitely be better.

On another note, it's difficult, if not impossible to use the Wimberley with a short lens, which might mean carrying two tripods.

the thought of a wimberley with an attached 600mm f4 IS is making me light headed.. best have a lie down.
