Have a look at yesterday's popemobile incident in Rome.
Check out the 'bodyguard' at the rear left of the jeep (as we look at it).
His reaction is priceless when the guy jumps over the barrier.
    Worst bodyguard ever?

Not exactly the clearest of photos, but if you see the footage, the speed of that little Gerry is unbelievable. I'd be surprised if anyone would react that quickly. He's also quite strong. There are four or five of them on him in a second, and he still manages to gets his hands on the vehicle.

What I love is that he has been held "For psychiatric evaluation". Nobody says what state he's being held in - I'm assuming the Vatican City, being a law unto itself, can dispense with the niceities of court and just send people off to the madhouse?

you also notice that nearly all the bodyguards leave the popemobile unattended while stopping that guy. one bodyguard backs away completely !!!

They'll just give him to the Swiss Guard and then he'll disappear in the catacombs.

You'll have to watch the video to see the bodyguard. As mentioned, he spots you man, and backs off completely, leaving the rest of them to catch the guy.

That probably makes him the best bodyguard as he was then free to deal with any other incident that may have happened whilst the rest of them were otherwise engaged, assuming that he didn't just run away though.

Maybe he steps back to reach for his Uzi?

    I agree.
The bodyguard in question wasn't the only one to have stayed in position either!

But he didn't stay in position, he stepped away.
The only excuse he could have is that he was not a bodyguard. Maybe he was a doctor...you know, just in case.

Actually that guy was rubbish and as the nearest person to the bloke when he originally jumped over the barrier should not have been running away. But the other security on the left of the popemobile were equally rubbish in that they all left their positions after the bloke had already been taken down, and a uniformed cop had joined in as well by that point so the bodyguards did not need to join in then, they just wanted to hit someone I guess. The left of the popemobile was then left completely unguarded but the right hand side, where the "attack" had come from was still properly covered.

He ran away, lol. I'd have done the same.

What good is 10 bodyguards on 1 man?

...and why does he even need any bodyguards anyway. Surely if he was in any real danger then his attacker would just get struck down by a bolt of lightning or something what with him being best buddies with that god fellow.

As opposed to the best bodyguards ever who went and landed their boat on top of a greenpeace dingy near the G8 in germany earlier

I reckon the 4 bodyguards in this article could qualify for the title.

It wasn't that long ago here, that you could sign your wife / daughter into a loony bin if you got a Priest to counter sign.

Doesn't God protect him? Surely he can't be harmed :D

As for the bodyguards - all it took was a second "madman" to jump out in front of the "pope-mobile" and we'd be looking for a new pope! :D

Whats to say the guy wanted to harm the Pope? I'm sure if he wanted to, he would have done something else.

I still think the Popemobile is a bit of a misleading name. There's no rockets or anything :(

You have to flip down the cover of the radio to reveal the switches that control the hidden accessories.

I think these guys win: (very sad story btw)

"Several armed men attacked my house at 2200 (1800 GMT) and killed 14 people, including my wife, brother and my 12 bodyguards," Col Jurani told AFP news agency."
