swapping the cpu and

    Just wondering something

    can i just repace the cpu withot having to reinstall the os?
    I imagine I could but i've never done it.
    i running a opty146 socket 939 with vista premium and i want to throw an x24200 in there instead

    Yeah you can just install a new CPU without having to reinstall the OS but what model CPU do you want to attach? because you may need a socket AM2 to install the latest AMD CPUs

    *edit* oh sorry reread your post you cant install a x2-4200 on a 939 mb you must have the newer AM2 socket.

    There wont be a differance that requires a xp reinstall, just make sure the bios supports the dual core, and if not update it before hand.

    After installing be sure to install the Amd dual core driver on this page(near the bottom).
