Wierd sound card problem

    Hi guys,
I'm having a really wierd problem with my sound card (I think). I'll explain the nature of it to you.

Esentially I was trying to record some streaming video (it's not illegal don't worry) using recording software. Using fraps the video recorded was fine, but it didn't record any sound except what I said through the mic. I checked and played around with the sound recording settings in the audio control panel (selecting 'stereo mix') but everytime I tried to capture via FRAPS it would automatically switch to mic (even though i had fraps set to best win input).

Anyway the make a long story short I've tried like 5/6 different programs each with the same problem. I even tried AUDIO only recording programs, but for some reason none of these is able to detect my sound card correctly. I can here the sound just fine via headphones or speakers but none of the programs can detect and record the sound playing through my speakers.

Does anyone have ANY idea what the problem might be?

    I'm using a VAIO laptop - VGN-FE11M
    1.66 DUo Core Pentium
    1 g Ram
    Microsoft XP Media Centre Edition

    And Sigmatel high definition Audio

    Help please!
    thanks

Okay I think I've narrowed down the problem. It does seem like none of the software can detect my sound card :( ANyone know a way to fix this>
