I'm wondering if anyone can advise me where most trading type of activity takes place in the IFSC or other banks / companies around Dublin.

I've got to write a Day in the Life piece on one, so I'm trying to find the best place to approach, ideally where people aren't just going to be sat in front of their PC screens pushing buttons.

There is very little floor trading done in Ireland.

Nymex used to have an open cry trading pit for Brent Crude in the Exchange Building in the IFSC. It opened in Sep 04 and cloesed the next year. The pit is now unused. There are still plenty of brokers in the building who'll ring into London to do their trades.

As I said you'll find little or no open cry trading in Dublin. It's all done via trading platforms or on the phone via London and NY.

The ISE's floor is long since closed and operates now via an electronic platform.

yep I'm aware of that. It's not going to be as exciting if traders are just on the phone and staring at their screens...

There must be something going on that I can write a colourful piece about though!

You appear to have watched too many movies and are looking for something which doesn't exist in Ireland.

Why ask the question if you were already aware of the answer?

Traders are in the business of excitment.

    Too many films you've watched.

While there is always a buzz on the trading floor its only in exceptional circumstances you find something like in the films.

Just about everything is done through computers and phone these days. There are a few outcry pits left in London but they're slowly going away as it doesnt make sense to use htem anymore

My editor suggested it, not me!

I guess I'll have to put this to him and see if it's still worth doing something on a company, even if they are trading by computer and phone, so I might still be after suggestions of companies to approach.

Thanks in the meantime anyhow guys.

It seems there's a few young Irish maths whizzkids in the City earning good money over in London, so I might see if I can track a few of them down.

If anyone knows any, please pm me!
