new sequels ??

was thinking about the fact that a lot of sequels are coming out this summer and autumn. a lot of them i am going to see (spiderman3 and pirates 3 already) with ocean's 13 and ff4: rise of the silver surfer being the next two (and for those of you that go to the cineworld on parnell st - big life like silver sufer display just put in - words can do it no justice - it will be stolen i bet)

but a thought came into my head - what are the sequels people want to see rather than the sequels people are given to see (case in point - do we need alien v predator 2 or res evil 3 ??)

for me, I would love to see a goonies sequel - there were plans to do one soon after the original was released but they fell through, and now i hear they are considering a remake - but how much better would a sequel be with all the original cast - i would love that to be made.

also a serenity/firefly sequel - will prob never happen, but maybe as a tv movie, I heard joss was considering that move as he really wants to do more with the characters.

I throw it to the floor - any others ??

Terminator 4 WITH Arnie, fùck the plot I want my Arnie back!! Rambo IV looks exciting in a gruesome, back to the over-the-top 80's way. Transporter 3 cuz the other 2 were ridiculous fun (I think that got the green-light actually). A proper Starship Troopers sequel would've been nice but they did that already and.....talk about a home-made movie, bleeeurrgh! There's a 3rd one with the star of the original coming out but I ain't holding my breath.

No No No. The Goonies is a work of pure brilliance, a movie which you love no matter what age you are for the same reasons you did when you were a kid. sure make more Die Hards, Terminators and other action movies (sequels of which seem to at least be watchable because of tecnologicol improvements that often allow better action). But leave the Goonies alone, a sequel to it could never do justice to the original especially after so much time. its a one of a kind.

Ideally sequels should be made of movies that were quite good and well liked, but had so much more potential. this was the case famously with the Original Terminator, However almost all of these movies already have sequels and the big studios want to make further sequels/prequels simply to make money.

def agreed. but I love the characters so much that I believe a continuation of their adventures would be great cinema (of course the story and script would have to be first rate). Think of it this way - national treasure made a bunch of money worldwide of the same premise as the goonies (treasure hunting) and I feel this is because the audience that went to see that had an afinity for that type of movie because of the movies they (and I) watched as a kid. So a grown-up goonies movie would do really well and have a massive aduience for it (and be a better movie than national treasure)

I feel sequels should be for the continuation of great characters and not just story. Great characters can adapt to any storyline - take for example the indiana jones movies - 3 movies, 3 different storylines, 1 central character.

There's a trailer for National Treasure 2 out now i think.

But scratch that.....I'd rather have my Sahara 2 :(
