Hand Ranges

    Well Lads,

Just a question that has been bothering me for a bit. How exactly do you assign hand ranges to people.

Is it from watching them play?

From standard ABC poker? (raise=pocket pair, A10+, high suited connectors)

    Positional raises may mean nothing?

    Etc etc

And how do these ranges work? If your playing a pot and are on the turn him having raised pre-flop, check called the flop, and bets the turn.... is it your hand range that u have assigned to him that will help u make a good decision?

If so is this not the same as "reading a player"?

Or is it hand ranges that help you compare a few possible hands he could have and then u can compare them against what you gold and see if your getting a positive expectation?

And if thats (above) what hand ranges are predominantly used for, how do you calculate your hands equity against say 10 possible holdings he may have?

OK thanks lads.... sorry if its a bit all over the place.
