There are three provincial semi-finals being played this weekend in the hurling, with most of the teams having been named already. Unfortunately I am expecting no suprises, although it would be nice to see Offaly and Limerick winning :D

    Dublin (SH v Wexford): G Maguire; P Brennan, S Hiney, T Brady; M Carton, R Fallon, D O'Reilly; D Qualter, J Boland; L Ryan, R O'Carroll, D Curtin; J Kelly, P O'Driscoll, K Flynn

    Wexford (SH v Dublin): D Fitzhenry; M Travers, D Ruth, P Roche; R Kehoe, K Rossiter, C Kenny; D Lyng, E Quigley; M Jacob, D O'Connor, P Carley; N Higgins, D Stamp, R Jacob

    Offaly (SH v Kilkenny): B Mullins; C Hernon, T Cleary, D Franks; G Oakley, B Kenny, K Brady; B Teehan, B Murphy; G Hannify, R Hannify, B Molloy; B Carroll, J Bergin, D Murray

    Limerick (SH v Tipperary): B Murray; D Reale, S Lucey, S Hickey; M O'Riordan, B Geary, M Foley; P Lawlor, D O'Grady; N Moran, O Moran, M O'Brien; A O'Shaughnessy, S O'Connor, B Foley

    Tipperary (SH v Limerick): B Cummins; E Buckley, P Curran, D Fitzgerald; E Corcoran, B Dunne, C O'Mahony; S McGrath, J Woodlock; J Carroll, R O'Dwyer, D Egan; E Kelly, L Corbett, W Ryan

You could pay at the gate for the Wexford vs Offaly game in Nowlan Park last year anyway, I assume it is the same this year but I don't know for definite

It will be pay at the gate tomorrow; I think I'll make the drive down but I'm a little sceptical having seen Wexford in the League Semi's down there; Oh well here's hoping

Kilkenny name their team for tomorrows clash with Offaly:

    P J Ryan, M Kavanagh, N Hickey, J Tyrell, T Walsh, B Hogan, JJ Delaney,
    D Lyng, Cha Fitzpatrick, W O'Dwyer, H Shefflin, E Larkin E Brennan, M Comerford, A Fogarty

With all due repsect to Offaly, I think if KK put out their Intermediate team the cats would still win.

As regards the Dublin-Wexford match, I think the loss of O'Reilly and McCaffrey for Dublin has stolen any chance they have of beating Wexford. Although the positioning of O'Connor at 11 is a highly strange decision by John Myler. Still I can only see a Wexford win.

If Limerick have learnt their lesson from last year, and put a specialist man-marker on Eoin Kelly, then they are in with a big chance of winning. But still I think that Tipp, even though they dont appear to be All-Ireland contendors, will be too strong for Limerick.

I don't think this match will be as tight as predicted, I expect Wexford to beat the handicap.

Doc play in midfield for his club so he will be used to being further forward. One of the main problems that Wexford has had over the last few years, has been their smaller forward and retention of the ball by the forwards. By having Doc and centre forward and Stamp at full forward Wexford have a strong spine through the team and not just as far as midfield. This should help the forwards win and retain possession, and also ease pressure on the backs.

I didnt think so but listening to it now it seems very close. My Da and Bro are at it and say Wexford are slightly better at the moment but all depends if Dublin get worn down eventually.

EDIT: Just gone half time. Still in it but awful to concede a goal so late in the half. Hopefully wont affect us too much.

At half time Wexford 2-06 Dublin 2-04. Apparently Fallon is having a great game for Dublin

Ah Mr. Vain a blast from the past :) For RTE you need Real Player as the files is a .smil, for South East I think you need Windows Media Player

Painful. Last bloody puck of the game. Sounded like a great free but at least we pushed em to the very end.

Great game between tipp and limerick, fair play to limerick as they had 14 men for most of that match!

The match between Limerick and Tipp was enjoyable, of not spectacular.

Limerick made it difficult on themselves by not marking correctly for Carrol's goal, having a man sent off and it was also unfortunate that Donie Ryan didn't see number 20 (cant remember his name) outside him in the last minute. It could have been the winning of the game for Limerick.

Still, they put in a great battling display but they would need a bit of target practice as some of their long-range wides were just criminally wasteful (a lot like Offaly against KK). Finnerty said at half-time that if Limerick played "an intelligent brand of hurling" they would be in with a great chance of winning the game. Even though they still insisted on booming the ball into the full-forward position, they rarely got much scores off of it (except the creation of the goal). Tipp were just putting their spare man in front of the Limerick full-forward and he was collecting the ball with ease and driving it up the field.

However, in saying that Tipp had the advantage of an extra man for most of the game yet couldnt make it count. This IMO doesn't bode well for the replay - it shows a lack of cuteness on the ball and how to use it. As it stands I think that Limerick have a very good chance of winning the replay, so long as they dont let this performance go to their head. Oh yeah, Ollie Moran deserved the MOTM award, IMO.

The second game between Offaly and KK was lively in the first half, but it all just fell apart for Offaly in the second half. It reminded me of an Intermediate team playing a senior team. In other words, the Intermediate team would try their damndest for the first half, but the overall fitness and hurling ability of the Senior team would eventually pull through.

Offaly aren't a bad side, they are still developing and fair play to them for making some of the KK team look very ordinary in the first half (I'm thinking of Tommie Walsh here) but Offaly just seemed to run out of steam in the second half. They will also have to find a few forwards who can score from play as Damien Murray scored the vast majority of thir scores from frees or the penalty.

KK, even thought they won by 14 points, would still want to sharpen up for later on in the championship as they have a few positions/players who "the jury still remains out on"

After the Tipp goal and the sending off I thought ......here we go again.
Limerick did really well in the second half when I thought we'd fade away in the heat, minus one man. Great finish by Tobin to earn the draw. Hopefully now we can go on and win the replay. Cracking game!

Anyone know if this is will be shown on the box???

Offaly basically remind me of all Leinster teams(excusing Kilkenny), with 4 or 5 very nice hurlers but overall the quality and depth isn't really there.Same problem with Laois, Wexford, Dublin etc. They were basically knackered by the 50th minute.

No doubt with some more good young players Offaly and the Dubs could become truly competitive.

Kilkenny seemed to have some passengers today, particurly up front.

Kilkenny beat Offaly easily enough and have already hammered Wexford in the league semi final this year. Wexford are lucky to get out of Nowlan Park with a win. There is absolutely no way Wexford can beat Kilkenny, serious underdogs with no chance, perfect for an upset :D

Wexford usually put up a good fight to KK and hopefully this year will be no different.
Looking at the qualifier groups. They look a bit lopsided considering current form. Antrim & laois are not at the races and clare have fallen back but its a definite that GY & Ce will emerge from that group whereas in grp2, you would expect the two munster teams to come through but its not a foregone conclusion.

    Group 1 is
    Galway
    Clare
    Laois
    Antrim

    Group 2 is
    Offaly
    Dublin
    Cork or Waterford
    Limerick or Tipp

Seeing as there wasn't a specific thread for the Limerick-Tipp match, I thought I would post it in this one..

The match thie evening was brilliant , and very entertaining (well except for the first half) I missed the 1st half, which by all accounts was a blessing as the hurling was sh1te.

It doesnt say a lot for Tipp when they let a 10 point lead at half-time slip and they were at home, and were very lucky that they weren't beaten with Shaughnessey's late goal chance. When Limerick woke up in the second half, they hurled with a lot of commitment and passions, but still seemed to be making life hard for themselves. They never could seem to pick up the sliothar on the first go - they always had to go down the second, or even the third time. This gave the Tipp lads the opportunity to close in and put pressure on the Limerick lad.

Limerick seem to have a fear of winning - they never seem to play well until they fall behind. They got away with it again this evening, but sooner or later it will catch up with them. Also some of Limerick's shooting was poor, they had something like 14 wides (which meant they were really dominating most of the possesion) while Tipp had only 4 (which meant they took a high % of their chances)

This saga is turning into another "Dublin v Meath", and I dont think that there will be too much between them the next day out either.
