    Hi Steppen,
Quite a difficult task you have assigned yourself with! It's immensely difficult to find a teacher of Arabic in Dublin, let alone Farsi.
Try putting up a notice in the Royal College of Surgeons. They have loads of students from the Gulf, might be someone who knows Farsi.
Try the Islamic Cultural Centre (they are not well organised, though)
Ring the embassy of Iran (I do not think there's one in Dublin, but in London they may have contacts for someone from the Iranian community in Dublin)
Regarding language classes, forget about those. Private lessons, I'd say, would be more realistic.
    a.

The Sandford Language Institute run 4 levels of Arabic courses, I took a beginner's class with them before I went to the Middle East last year.

    There's an embassy in Blackrock.

OP; could be worth calling Sandford, they might be able to arrange it or put you in touch with someone. If you're planning to go to Iran, taking a basic Arabic course might be an idea so you can learn the script - Farsi has a couple of extra letters but the bulk is the same as Arabic. Helped me read the signposts when I was there anyway :)

I already speak it to an acceptabel level, just need some help with the formal conversations.

Dont want the headache of learning arabic, would help me with the alphabet but wouldnt help me at all with farsi.

A huge amount of words (or so I've been told anyway) in Farsi are basically Arabic words. I met a Danish woman in Iran who is fluent in Arabic and she was having no trouble picking up Farsi because of the amount of common words.

But I know, learning Arabic to half know Farsi isn't much help to you. I was thinking you might be going to Iran for a holiday or something and wanted to pick up the basics. There's a Shi'a mosque in Dublin, somewhere near Milltown I think, did you try contacting them? Good luck anyway.

    Salaam,

I know this thread was posted some time ago but I still do not think there is any proper Farsi classes in Dublin, I tried Sandford but was private and found it to be too expensive so just learning Farsi/Dari from friends the only other option is to go abroad if you really want to go a course in Farsi there are many Universities in the UK that do it at third level and also do evening courses too and other European countries but the unfortunate thing is Ireland is not one of them.

Frank - Farsi is not related to the Arabic language in any way I have a reasonable amount of words there are some related but that is mainly due to religious reasons but different culture, languages, customs etc and think if you said that to an Iranian or Afghan they would be quite offended!! Kushad asty??? Joke

    Hi

I did speak to you guys at Sandford and to be honest I found it too expensive was E50 for one hour which is out of my price range and got the information about the tutors too but again found it quite expensive though understand its not a language that is in demand here so going to do the course in UK much cheaper at at uni level.

I was mostly talking about the script, they do use the same script with some extra letters. Regarding the common words; I was just mentioning what someone who is fluent in Arabic who was in the process of learning Farsi told me.

Yeah I know its the same alphabet and there are some extra letters too that would not be in arabic, and Farsi/Dari is generally an easy language to pick anyway if you are around people that speak the language and possibly easier for your friend as she will be able to read the script but it is not like arabic or does not sound like arabic its a much softer language.

Yeah, I much preferred the sound of it - much nicer language to listen people speak in (although Arabic has its moments too). I didn't pick up much Farsi while I was over there unfortunately, everyone I met wanted to practice English with me :)
