i spent 10 night in stratosphere on my honeymoon and cant speak highly enough of it.50$ a night room better than honeymoon suite in red cow.
its friendly clean and theres loads to do from great shows to the tower thrill rides.you eat drink smoke for free once you do any gambling.
only draw back is its at the end of the strip ie 30 min walk to mgm(centre)
but there is the strip tram or cabs
tell cab driver at airport to take paradise or you will get a tour of the strip on your way ie 30$ for 10$ fare.
also tip the person booking your room immediately always worth an upgrade if ones available
    other wise enjoy.

    SIR

It depends when you will be in July. There will be a hell of a lot of us over there (including me) in the first half of July, abut after that it should quiet down. Poker will be prominent in the majority of places I would imagine, and there should be a bit of craic around as well.

IMO, Caesars is the best card room in Vegas. Monte Carlo is very soft, but the biggest NL game you'll get there is 1/2.

I don't remember seeing a 2/5 game in Caesars, others may confirm. The time I was there, I thought the next game up from 1/2 was 5/10

During last years WSOP the 1/2 in Caesars was 500 cap, the 2/5 was uncapped, 3+ tables of each going. Agreed on Caesars being the best poker room in Vegas - if they can keep their shuffling machines working. The Wynne is also a nice poker room, they spread a 1/3NL game, cant remember if it was capped - probably 300, the $3 chips take some getting used to.

    the Wynn 1-3 game ftw

    Bellagio 2-5 was good too

didnt play in Caesars at all

edit - Venetian deserves a mention too, excellent room and very good tourney structures

Caesar's is a big and very well run card game but my experience was that it had very mixed standards with a lot of good players sharking poorer players (from my single night observation). The smaller hotels have easier games and are worth seeking out (particularly any hotel with games near a bar!).

Dont hit the tables till 10-11pm and plan on playing until 4am.

Dont drink and play. Do one or the other...

    DeV.

I enjoyed the MGM. Seemed as if there was alot of amateur cash players. Maby because its close to the "buzz" area. If you get that close and get tired try the rolercoster in the new york new york. Its sure to wake you up:D

Plus the Sit n Gos were full of noobs. All in All in .... Think the firat one I played in lasted about 30mins(10 ppl) Just remember if you play these that 5% is more then enough for a tip if you get paid. Most give 10%

Believe they had 2,4 cash also. but 1/2 is enough for me!

pretty much non-stop 24/7 in the rio during wsop anyway. not sure about elsewhere

Caesars $1/$3 NL play considerably bigger than the other $1/$2 games around the strip. They seem to have a slower turnover of players so there's often some big stacks at the table who have been there for a while.
Compared to the 1/2 at the Venetian where the first preflop raise would be to 10 or 12, the opening raise in Caesars would often be 15 or 17.

I found the Venetian to be pretty soft. Caesars not so much.

    Cant wait....

I'll be there on the third leg of a 3 week hol in the US. Getting there on the 16th july for 6 days (more if i make some cash)

Bringing the ball n chain so I cant go mad on the cash. 1/2 will do me fine or maybe a few $100 stt's if they're available.

I'm staying in the MGM, and as previously stated the gf will be there so it won'y be all poker. I'll be having a few pints once I find out wheres this yrs Irish haunt will be.

    This is gonna be great......

When I was there at the start of May I didn't see any Sit and Gos. I heard a couple of people mention them at the cash tables but they sounded like they were purely for touristy fish, less than $100 per person and with really terrible structures.

Probably be diff for WSOP time.

I didn't actually play any of the Rio sit-and-goes on either of my WSOP trips, but I found info on a pal's (Rob Sherwood's) blog ( http://sherwoodpoker.blogspot.com/ Rob's WSOP diaries can be accessed through blog archive for June and July '06)
The single table satellites have buy-ins ranging from $65 to $1,030. Yesterday I managed to play one $225 and four $325's. I haven't played live poker for a long time and to be honest I thought I may find it boring and slow, but on the contrary I enjoyed it immensely, a feeling which was promoted further by the awful play I was witnessing at my tables! However, I only cashed in one, taking $1,800 in a favourable deal heads up, to give jmyself a measly profit of $275 on the day. However, I think I ran badly, in two of the tournaments I had 4,500 chips out of 15,000 in play but then lost coinflips/ got outdrawn/ ran into monsters, etc. The structures of them are pretty much spot-on, the higher the buyin the bigger the stack and longer the levels (obv), the $325 buyin for example has starting chips of 1,500, a 20 minute clock and the blinds start at 25/25 and progresses like this - 25/50, 50/100, 100/200, 200/400, 300/600, 400/800.
