    The E6600 gets up to 3GHz on stock volts, so as far as I know this applies to most good batches of conroe chips.

    That X2 is a darn fine processor, but its beaten by the core2duo. If its a HTPC and only light gaming in mind, then you wont need much grunt under the hood. I would go for a 65nm X2 with the low voltage rating. There was a review on tomshardware (sigh) recently pointing out the very low power consumption, hence low thermal output.

    But if you haven't bought a mobo and you plan to salvage some of the components later for another build, the intel might be the better option.

    Its a win-win situation for you anyway.

    I'd go with the intel chips, You might get one of the new nes with low power consmption.
