right guys, just found out that there was another 'subtle' performance saloon out there (besides s4. m3 etc) and that is the volvo s60 r. Never seen one in ireland and not too plentiful in england either (volvo are no longer selling them).

I managed to find a 04 with 40K on the clock that could be landed here for 25K (10 of which is VRT, the scumbags)

    Any opinions/experiences?

For anyone that doesn't know them they are nearly identical to a standard S60, but with a 2.5L Petrol with 300BHP and 4WD and plenty of toys.

Handling isnt great, its a bit heavy. It is very very hard on fuel, but its still a good car. I had one for a weekend and although I didnt buy it, I liked it. You wont see too many of them around and most people wont know what it is, but it will be hard to sell in a few years and will depreciate as fast as it goes.
If you like it, buy it. Its only money.

I wouldnt go near a Volvo,My father has had 4 different volvos including s70,and 3 s80's and the s80's ahve cuased so many problems since the start and has cost a fortune and i mean a huge fortune and now the 00 s80 is only worth around 5k( well thats what a garage says)

Id prefer some other preformance car and i wouldnt go for a volvo if i was you.

One passed me on the N7 last week, UK plates, looks well on the road, nice and subtle too. As for handling, performance and the like I don't know bit they look well.

My cousin just got one last week, 04 reg, fantastic car. If i was to compare it, it reminds me of the audi s4,maybe a bit quicker. Very heavy on petrol as TommyT said but if you have the money, go for it. You'll have a luxury sport saloon :p

Anything with 300bhp and AWD is going to be heavy on fuel. I filled my A8 last week - €87 for 242 miles...

Sounds like a good deal - I currently drive an S60 T5 SE(04) company car (which I could have bought for 25k euros with 130k on clock) and have bought an S60R (12 05) instead as a replacement as I am owning my next car.
The T5 is an excellent car, with a very wide power band, great gear change and get to sit in the best seats in the business. The T5s main downfall is wheel spin (260bhp thru the front wheels is a tall order). I was averaging 9.5 lts/100km on a daily long run (2x55 miles) and not sparing the horses ! zero reliability issues !!.
The R I have bought will be harder on Juice but faster and no wheel spin. And I get more kit than the T5, 18'' alloys, RTi with TV, softer leather, bi Xenons, comms pack, electric seats +AWD and 4 C. My import price is 38500 euros (12228 vrt included). Its an 80k car to buy new with this spec and still has 17 months warranty from volvo.
    Any opinions ?

I'd a 2001 T5 for a while. Great car - I loved it. Seriously quick for a car of it's size. I only did about 10,000 miles in it, but it never gave a moments bother. Very comfortable to drive. Heavy on the juice - but not much heavier than the 2003 2.0T Auto that I had later. Good enough handling for car of it's size/weight but there is definitely room for improvement.

I've never driven the R but based on the T5, I can't see any reason not to go for it.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Extremely rare and even more subtle than any S4/M3. That's a major bonus imho. Also €25k seems an ok price (actually £10k seems a bit on the cheap site). Don't expect too much back come resale time. It's a car you'd buy for the long haul

Get it checked out by a specialist!

    Hi

I posted a few weeks back that I was replacing my Co T5 for a personal S60R.
Well I only had the R for 1 week (with little use as I still have T5), got up this morning to find both cars gone. House broken into and took keys.

Any suggestions on how I could persue my own "enquiries"

    SD:(

Sorry to hear that, Sean :(

You did the right thing imho, to leave the keys to be found by the criminals. At least you (and your family if you have any) were not hurt

Feel free to start your own thread with pictures and even regs of the stolen cars if you wish and who knows, people here on boards might spot them. It has happened before!

Spot on about leaving the keys out, unkel. So many people bring the keys to the bedroom which invites the thief upstairs

T5s and Rs are quite rare, so a few pics could help.

Had personal insurance on S60R (AA) and was on Company policy for T5 - I'm probably screwed now for my next car ?! (Which will also be hard to find at the right price)

    Car details:
Reg for S60R is OE05RFN (had paid VRT previous day but had not changed plates)
Silver metallic in colour with 18" dark alloys (Graphite)

    T5 is 04D65416

Black Met in colour, with 17" Thor wheels

They tried a neighbours house first but alarm went off, they crossed a 7 ft wall and broke lock on back door - there is a design flaw in PVC Door locks it turns out. I found a version today that fixes the issue, if any body is interested let me know and I can post link.
We had alarm off as we had a sick child and were up and down at 1, 2 and 5pm (1st time alarm off in a month !), anyway took the keys, my daughters MP3 player, a mobile fone charger !! and 3 large Maglite torches and 1 mini maglite torch !! (tools of the trade ??) my wifes bag and my work rucksack (probably to carry takings).

    Thanks for the help

    Sean

This is the classic rubbish motors board post. It can get so tiring reading stuff in this place with ever third post following the above forumla to a tee.

I'd never get X car becasue Y relation had Z model and it broke down N number of times on him.

Black S60 T5 (co car) was recovered in kingswood with 07 plates, balaclavas/ gloves, wire/bolt cutters and tie wraps in boot.
Still no sign of my own car.
