P45

I started a summer job today and they said they need my P45 from my last job. I have my P45 and P60 from the job before the last 1 (this is my 3rd job). Is that good enough? If not, where can I get my P45?

    Thanks.

Contact your previous employer to ensure that you got one from them.

If you haven't worked since the 1st of January then you won't need a P45 as your tax credits will have been unused. If you have worked since the 1st of January you'll need the most recent one so ask your previous employer for a P45 (assuming you were in a tax-paying job).

Sorry to invade your thread, but what if your working in a job and you get a second job at the same time, how would you give the second job a p45 since your first job still has it

The typical thing to do would probably be to ring the tax office and get them to issue a new certificate of tax credits to each employer dividing the tax credits. If you work in the second job without doing this your initial tax credits under emergency tax will mean that you underpay tax for the first two months and will have to repay some at the end of the year.

It may be possible to get them to just issue a single cert showing no tax credits to the second job if you want to keep it from the first employer but I'm not sure.

If the 2nd job didn't need the P45 ;) then just hand in the one you have.

And I say ;) as some cowboys pay cash in hand.
