Noob requires help to pick/buy AEG

    Hi,

I'm a noob to Airsoft, but got hooked after playing in HRTA on Saturday just gone (2nd June). My mate also is hooked, and we are both looking at getting our 1st AEG, and all the rest...

So where to begin... Well he wants to get an Aug, so did I but no point getting the same AEG, so I am looking at M4's and a H&K MP7 and a ......

But seriously, I have been trying to read as much info on this site and others to make an informed decision, but it's tough to decide what and from who.

The 2 types I am looking at are a clone from rsov, or a TM from uncompany or who do you recommend? From recommendations, it seems it makes sense to spend more on a TM/CA and it should last longer and have less probs, but the clones available and service from rsov is appealing.

The favourite in the race, at the moment, is the following: 'JG' - Jing Gong M4 S-System AEG (6613)

Metal body and looks class, good review by someone who bought one:

Problem is, it appears the FPS is close to 400 out of the box. Can this be tuned down and do Customs check this? then bin it!!

The other AEG from rsov I am looking at is: 'Dboys' M4A1 AEG (BI3681 - metal body)

Any advice or suggestions greatly welcomed.

Also, if I order 2-3 AEG's from rsov at the same time, does the cost of shipping increase by 2-3 times? e.g. 50 Euro for 1, 100Euro for 2, etc...

In regards to the Orange tip on the end of the AEG, I think I read somewhere here that you mention something to Keith (from RSOV), and what are the consequences when it goes through customs?

Where on boards, or similar can you buy 2nd hand AEG's if that is an option?

    Thanks in advance,
    Ciaran

We're just after getting an airsoft sales forum now that you mention it. It's at the top of the forum page. Link here. Only one AEG up at the moment.

    http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055101938

As far as I know, Keith will power down an AEG for you if you ask.

As a matter of interest, what TM/CA aegs were you looking at? Is your friend saving up for the CA AUG or getting the JG one?

If you like mp7s, the BELL one on rsov.com looks great for the price. I haven't shot it yet but I've held it. (Why i didnt shoot it, dont ask) The build quality was pretty fine.

You were out in HRTA ? I'm pretty sure the M4s that Paul rents out are Dboys? Did you get a look at them? They feel very solid. I haven't fired one yet though. I'd presume the rate of fire is lower then higher end brand guns like most other clones.

-> Your friend: If at all possible save up the casha nd get a CA aug A1. Got 30/30 from airsoft international(First top gun award!). Its dear but i have one and love it.

AS for you, do you like G36Cs? The JG one is supposedly brilliant.(€106 shipped from RSOV:D )

rsov.com don't do spring downgrades! I asked Keith about a month ago.

They dont? Ah no, I was sure they did. Sorry about that OP. Just stay away from anything over 1j then. Too much of a risk.

But sometimes the fps listed can be hyped up. Safest way is to ask for the J rating instead of fps.

Those JG G36Cs are rated at 350fps with .2g bb on rsov, but when they were chrono'ed at HRTA they were allowed to be used.

    Thanks for the feedback.

So looks like that JG M4 S-System is out?? Can a lower voltage battery, different spring be used?

Anyone know cost of shipping more than 1 AEG from rosv?

I have been looking at the JG 36C, looks good. Anyone recommend a good scope on rosv? why is there so much choice?? I like the idea of a scope for outdoors, and spray and pray indoors. Has anyone bought a package recently that they could recommend? AEG, MAGS, SCOPE, any other extras?

The red tip? what is needed for red tip? tell me if I am being stupid. like it is the law etc...

Might have to go to HRTA on Saturday again, and quiz some people!

Appreciate the help, nothing worse than buying a dud....

A different spring needs to be used yes. However, you'll have to have it changed before it's sent out to you. If you didn't, you'd be importing a firearm without a license.

There's no need for a red tip in Ireland. Only America.

The orange tips are not needed in this country. Its mainly for the US. Orange tips on AEGs are usually removable caps or fake flash hiders that screw off revealing the normal one.
I think Keith at rsov will do deals on shipping more than one AEG at once.

With the M4, its is not legal to import it as it is without a gun licence even if you plan to fit a weaker spring to it later.

    Edit: too late never mind.

the shipping on rsov is done by weight, i cant remember exactly, but i worked it out before that it was about £12 for the first kg and then £6 per kg after that, or thereabouts, that's sterling, so approx €18 and €9 respectively, you can go through the order process and get a shipping price without having to pay if you want to check out the cost of shipping, on average i'd say about £30-40 for an aeg shipped, which is pretty good and you'll normally get it within about a week

the Dboys m4 you linked to is apparently very good, the ones at hrta are the plastic version of the same, so the full metal body would add a bit of weight and probably feel a good bit better, there was a review in airsoft international magazine last month comparing the dboys m4 and a tm and they are basically indistinguishable, if your curious about anyone's aegs at hrta, feel free to ask, most people are happy enough to let you have look if your curious

best thing to do is probably decide on what guns you like the look of (which im assuming is the m4 in this case) and then decide on your budget, if your budget is enough for a TM/CA and that's what you want then go for that, with the higher-end brands you dont normally get a battery/charger though, so you'll have to add that into your budget too, clones normally come with charger/battery

I'll just add to Kdouglas post by saying that the batteries that come with clones are total rubbish. If you're going for one, it would be worth your while investing 25 euro or so in a decent one.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,323 ✭✭✭Spitfire666

most guns dont shoot at the stated figures and then when you use it the spring beds down and you loose even more and you can also loose 30fps between no hop and full hop.

So a gun "rated" at 400fps would bed down to the limit in practicle sence but as its above when u get it, thats were the problem lies.

I disagree with that as i have one in my TM MP5K and its caused me no problems.

Have you used your TM MP5K for a whole days skirmishing? I doubt you have.

There's a difference between having a battery of that standard in something you're going to use now and again and having it in your main AEG. Not everyone had 50 million AEGs like yourself :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,323 ✭✭✭Spitfire666

i have used it for a full day before. and have let others use it too.
Its lasted without recharge for a long time before running out completely

The batteries you get with clones are as good or bad as the clones themselves. The battery you get with the JG G36c is excellent where as the JLS SCAR battery is a piece of junk.

I've used my clone mp5-j with it's original battery for a full day with no problems at all, as Fiach said, some of the decent clones do come with a decent battery

the sanyo battery i have for my p90 is much better however and i would recommend buying a decent battery at some point, but if it's your first aeg and you just want something that will work straight out of the box, the clone batteries will do the job

If its a mini-type you need then get the "Intellect 1400mah Mini-Type". Its what I use in my P90 and its never ran out, not even on the ASI Birthday shoot.

Yeah, we needlessly got two of them each:D (2 for my aug plus two for friends p90).

OP, I've ordered the DBoys BIM4 full metal you're on about (BI-3681 metal) from RSOV/Keith last week. Came to €160 shipped, that includes two extra mags and an extra battery. Of that, £40/€60 was shipping. There ya have it, from the horse's mouth.

I did ponder the clone vs TM for a long time and perused tons of reviews. In the end, I decided I'd get the full metal clone (i) for the full metal, 100% TM-compatible receiver and other bits, they'll always get used in one form or another and (ii) because I forethought that I'd have to buy a hell of a lot more gear besides the AEG (clothing/protection/etc.) and I didn't want to blow all of the budget on the gun only - word of advice: just watch the spending when ya get going!

I've just about doubled that since, between all the extra ACU cammo gear (hat/trousers/tacvest/joint pads), gloves and a couple of patches of my old unit (4th Hussards, French Army) to perfect the ensemble :D

EDIT: Keith also confirmed that the FPS for the DBoys BIM4 metal was overstated, and closer to 320 out-of-the-box. I took him at his word + found at least 3 reviews (hunting linkies again atm) wherein it was chrono'd between 305 and 315.

    Have you received it yet?
which battery did you get for it?
    Does it work!

    Thanks,

Check the Airsoft retailers thread, Ambro has had "issues" with this order :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,994 ✭✭✭ambro25

Not all Keith's fault, I'm quick to add.

If it wasn't for Paypal forcing the country of card issue in the address (i.e. French card, so my IE address but with "France" i/of "Ireland" at the end), I would already have it or be a day or two away max from having it.

I told Keith to change, but he didn't or forgot or didn't read the tidbit message in the Paypal payment. Now considering he clearly states he only ships to the "verified" address, and considering you can't get a "verified Paypal address" unless you're in the US, etc. - it's not 100% his fault, and it would be unfair of me to blame him because he didn't "click" when he saw 'Dublin' and then 'France'.

Which is why I'm working this 'issue' with him and haven't charged back.

As far as i know, most of the clones use a m100 spring. There is a French page that concerns only about cheap airsoft guns. They disassemble every one piece by piece and check it. (Those lucky guys are allowed 2 Joule and airsoft is very popular in France) For example the Gun I've bought at last The BE M15 (G33) The review in French if you can read it like me;-). In this forum, there are also very detailed reviews about ACMs. They getting better, some of them are better then TM concerning the gearbox.:D (nylon bushings are nasty)

I'm about to order, but think I should get a 2nd battery for the dboys M4. Any recommendations on which one from the rosv site, that will fit into the AEG?

list just gets longer and longer!

Well I finally bit the bullet, and ordered my AEG from rsov.

'AGM' M14 AEG with green stock (MP008C)
    'Dboys' M4 CQB AEG (BI3881 - metal)
'Falan' Wiley-X style combat eyeglasses (clear lens)
    (Lot of 2) x 'AGM' M14 (MP008) 300 rds quick-winding magazine
    (Lot of 2) x 'Dboys' M4 / M16 300 rds wind-up magazines
    A.C.M. 0.25g bb x 3000

I can't believe the cost of shipping, just when you think you are reaching your max budget, wham! €160 shipping cost. I had to downgrade the scope and remove a couple of odd and ends to afford it!! I suppose it is for 2 AEG's so split the cost.

Is there anything I can ask keith to reduce price?

    Ciaran

You really bought the AGM MP008 (M14)? Have you already read this: Review on Arnies?!?

    Why not the M14 SOCOM

or the M14 (Kart M66 OD 2nd Version) much better than the MP008

Yes, if you mean version 1, but the one i have posted, is the Version 2. Thats a big difference. But as far as I have understand the the last post in the review, you have to brush up the gearbox. After that, it should be a nice gun.;)

P.S. What about a workshop "The Gearbox and you" ?

To be honest, the M14 is for a friend, and I pointed him to the Arnies site, and wants to go ahead. I will show him the Kart 2nd Version on Gunner, and if he wants that instead, maybe I can ask Keith to swap it.

    Thanks for your concern.

I've also just realised, not having a front site on the M4 is probably a bad idea, so I should have got a front sight from Keith. But I usually aim, fire, adjust, fire fire fire fire fire fire anyway.... :D

If anyone has a front site they plan on throwing away that will fit an M4 :p , maybe I could give some payment for it.

I also like the look of the new rail scope on rsov, not sure if it would look as well as an acog I plan to eventually buy.

    Cheers,

I also like the look of the new rail scope on rsov, not sure if it would look as well as an acog I plan to eventually buy.

    Three things:

    i) if you're going to use it in CQB environments, don't bother worrying about front sights (that's why it comes with a "CQB rear sight" - it does the job fine at close range). It's all about quick tango acquisition, not snipe-precise accuracy.

ii) if you're going to buy/use a red dot, don't bother about front sights altogether (they're in the way).

iii) if you're going to buy/use a red dot such as sold by RSOV, have a gander on eBay. The ones RSOV sells don't appear any different from the ones sold by Chinese/HK eBay shops for half the price (just don't forget to compare shipping).
