can online games be hacked part 2

Below is a quote from DEV on the last thread I started which for some reason was closed. I find it very disturbing. I have won alot of money playing poker but have more or less ceased online cash since this incident a couple of months back and now just play sats and the million on stars. Does anyone know anymore about this and how can I find out if my laptop has been hacked?

"The game cant be hacked but your computer potentially can. If someone installs a remote access watcher (something like a root kit built into a video file you are enticed to watch) then they could potentially see your hand.

    Please note:
    1. This is technically very trickey but I've not doubt such a thing can and has been done.

    2. While it seems unlucky if you run into him, the fact is that anyone who has hacked your machine can see where you are and what you are playing. Its easy then to get a seat at your table.

    3. This is very unlikely but if you are concerned then go to "www.avast.com" and download their free virus checker and protection program.

This sort of cheating is going to be a lot worse then bots if we arent careful, but if you want my honest opinion, I would be betting that you havent been hacked, just unlucky.

    DeV.

ps: I hate the 650 bet in the first one"

for the last 2 months or so the following message is on my desktop - I just thought it was a con of some sort to buy some spyware.

Stop looking at those smutty sites and you wont be getting hacked with Spyware!!

Ah no seriously - there was a hell of a lot of coincidence on your last post - an uncomfortable amount! With the above message it apears that there is some spyware or virus/bug of some description on your laptop. Its best to give it some young PC whizzkid to sort for you. Probably cost you €100 but it will be cheap in the scheme of things.

EDIT Valor/Breadmonkey - guys HHC is one of the better poker players in this country and would imo be a welcome contributor to boards. He has aired certain concerns and it doesnt help to have him ridiculed, poked or made fun of. Dev has given a plausable (if unlikely) scenario which the OP has now tried to gain further info on. If you are unable to help perhaps its best to read other threads?

This question may be better served to one of the geek forums but there are a fair amount of those here also.

LOL, i dont think format c:\ works anymore ;)

    Google the following

    Spybot Search & Destroy
    Spyware Blaster
    Adaware
    Avg anti virus

    all are free to download
install them, download the latest updates and run them.

A firewall is a also a good idea....zonealarm is free.
Id reccomend you download HiJack this and get someone who knows what they are doing to have a look at the logfile. That should sort out whatever is lurking on your pc.

Iexplorer is pants, use firefox/opera instead. You'll have a lot less problems.
Anything else I suggest you try the security forums for help.

In the first hand you posted, surely if they were cheating they would have raised the river so you would fold and no one would ever know he only had king high.

Indeed. run them from Safe Mode (hit F8 afaik when the computers starting up) and choose "Safe Mode", when they're done restart and go back to normal mode.
If its windows XP, you'll have to turn off system restore to do it though.

C_T_C: Will it, or will it not, remove the virii from his computer? Just answer yes or no.

I think I was more or less putting him all in - I could be completely wrong but something felt wrong - I was about to leave the 2nd time until he arrived on the scene - obviously I'm thinking complete fish. The betting sequence on hand 2 just disturbs me at that level

I lived in America for a year and a half.

While there, I had a problem with something on my computer. The problem isnt relevant.

When phoning verizon to mend the problem they sent me to a certain online page which gave them access to my screen. They could see exactly what I could see, move my cursor and preform tasks just as if it was me doing it.

While he did this I just sat on the phone in shock.

Note: All he had to do was gain my permission verbaly. Meaning anyone could do it without permission.

Format should display: WARNING, ALL DATA ON
NON-REMOVABLE DISK DRIVE C: WILL BE LOST!
    Proceed with Format (Y/N)? Type

Indeed. Format C (root drive) = Full wipe of said C drive.

It's the type of advice you would expect on IRC.

In fairness, he asked how to get rid of spyware/virii, I told him a way to. That way also comes with a warning (as you've posted) so...?
    lol! you're a sick man!

    :)

HeeHawsCantona: Check out this site. It'll teach you step by step how to get rid of any nasty programs on your computer. The one linked is one I had on my own and therefore had it bookmarked, but I'm sure you can find your way around it for yourself. After having done so, follow the advice in the above linked 2+2 thread on securing your computer.

It really isn't funny - if you're not tech-minded you could easily follow sick fcuks instructions - i'm really pissed at this and i'm far from finished with it too

i don't give a fk what you think but you should never be permitted to post here again at the very least - do you understand how much damage you could cause by typing sh1t like that?? - now just to HeeHaw, but other people may have seen it and done it

    fcuking disgraceful

rb_ie is very close to finding himself booted. If you hadnt posted a decent link to 2+2 I doubt I'd be seeing things in this light at all in fact. Not funny, dont repeat it.

I'm pretty annoyed about it too Bops but I'm going to choose a finger wagging and "Do NOT repeat" warning rather then bannage.
RB_IE, if Heehaw had actually screwed his machine because of your "advice" I for one would be expecting you to buy him a new machine. Fnckin irresponsible thing to post imho.

This thread locked and I'm starting a proper one on the topic.
