Ah well already got my Macbook 2.16Ghz, anyone else notice they've dropped the prices slightly too or is it my imagination?

Not your imagination, they have. Mainly due to the weak US dollar, I think.

oops, that's right, only the 15" though. I think they may be a bit thinner as well. Just 1 inch thick.

The LED displays mean about 30-60 minutes more life on the battery too apparently.

I've been holding out for this update for some time now...

All I have to do now is get three quotes and I get myself one.

I have Typetec and CompuB, can anyone recommend a third place to get a quote from? Don't say Apple.. they're a pain in the ass to deal with themselves.

Leopard is due October. It's not worth holding off till it's bundled imo, just wait till WWDC on Monday (when we'll hopefully we'll get a release date) and then decide.

I can't wait to see all the new features :D.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,424 ✭✭✭440Hz

    Aren't you under NDA then?

The developer section of apple.com publicly states that the Leopard preview is available with a developer account. I just said I've used it, I havent exactly disclosed anything ;)

I can't tell you about specific things though hehe

It's not difficult to sign for a developer account, Quite handy for getting X code for darwin / open source goodness.

Any news on updated macbooks ? non pro, I'm looking to update my 13" ;)

They were updated only a few weeks ago. It will be a while before they're updated again.

Apple seem to be following Intel on updates to their computers. Everytime Intel bring out a new cpu Apple moves to it, so the next update will probably at the end of this year or January, when Intel release Penryn (45nm).

Is it just me? There doesn't seem to be a massive difference in specs??
The display is better and then it's just the CPU.

I'm buying one of the older models it's reduced down because of the newer specs- 2.33GHZ 2GB Ram, 120 HDD, onlty 1999. Sweet deal!!

The graphics processor was upgraded from a Radeon x1600 to an nVidia 8600m GT, RAM went to 2Gb standard, the price got reduced, the 15" model is a tiny 0.2lb lighter & the screen is LED backlit -- it's a big difference alright.
Oh, and the FSB is now 800mHz IIRC.

Doh, missed out on the graphics processor
As for the display, that'll be more like the Macbook then??

Haven't heard any word on the new imac's, I heard a rumour from a guy in Apple that there'd be a black model, I figure it'll be like the mac book's, it's be the top end one and you pay a lot more to have it in black.

Off topic but, I'mm selling my old G4 Power Book here.

Those LED displays in the Macbook Pros are a big upgrade too.... they use up a lot less power and your battery lasts longer.

would look damn nice to be honest,

That's really the thing -- where does the iMac go from here?
When it went from CRT to LCD, it brought the white scheme and hasn't dropped it yet.
When it went from G4 to G5, it dropped the "cute" curves & rounded theme and became a slab. A good-looking slab, but a slab nonetheless.

So, can John Ives please please PLEASE go back to the fun designs he used to make, and give us something that DOESN'T look like a monitor or laptop?
    I certainly hope so.

Oh, and sometime this year would be nice too, kthnxbye

I have one of those slabs and find it aesthetically pleasing. Despite its slabness, it neither looks like a monitor or a laptop to me (I have both) - it just looks like a, ummmmmm, computer. Yay!

I'm sure Ivesy will take on board everything you've said and will produce a Burberry-flavoured iMac specially for you, with go-faster-stripes and a chav-cap to match.

    :D
