    Hello hello.

The thought of the word insurance must be getting boring on these boards and i do realise there is already a thread but not for what i want to ask.

I already know im too young for classic insurance, but also to be put on a classic car policy as i was told by axa today.

My question is.. im looking at vw beetle 1600, and i wouldnt mind making it my daily driver and thus wouldnt mind paying personal insurance but you cant get that on cars that are NCT excempt. Anyone know whether you can just go and get an NCT done on the car anyway?
    Cheers,
    -Ian

I am not 100% sure, but I think there are classic-style beetles about that are not 30 years old, in which case they would liable for the tax, insurance and NCT that any other non-classic would be liable for.

Edit: Looking at your post, you probably know that but you are looking at a specific one and my post is irrelevant. I guess just ring the NCT and see if you can get a car that may not be eligible for it booked in all the same.

Perhaps if someone knows if people who use their classics for wedding cars etc have to get an NCT as it's a PSV?

i think the fact that the car would normally not be eligible for the NCT would be the deciding factor, for instance I might be able to get a convince someone to issue me with a TV license for my dog, however that doesn't mean I can include him on my household insurance. NCT for older cars = once off engineers report for insurance company.

However on the brightside there are a number of later Mexican Beetles that I'm sure you can get your hands on.

Some insurance companies will accept an engineers report and allow daily driving, have you tried FBD and AXA?

If your budget will stretch there's a really nice 2003 beetle here - http://www.eircooled.com/carsforsale.aspx ;)

I've said this so many times before - book it in for the NCT. There is nowhere else you can get a car checked over for just 50 quid. If if passes, great, if no at least you know what has to be fixed. An NCT is an engineers report.

The insurance companies understand what an NCT is so will have few or no questions regarding roadworthiness if you have an NCT.

Well yous ee i rang axa.. and they wont take on a car on a private policy without a nct. So i then rang the nct place and they said it would be no problem to get an nct on a car over 30 years old. Persumally id have to pay proper tax if i decide to go ahead with this (not classic), but since there wuld be an nct on teh car i see no reason why i couldnt insure on a non-classic policy.

    I think im right anyway?

Once a car is over 30 years old from date of first registration, tax is 42 euros no matter wether its insured for everyday use or on a classic policy or NCT'd or not

If the car's over 30 years old the road tax is the vintage rate, regardless of whether it's got an NCT or not.
