Is it possible to pull a wireless wep kek off a pc?

I had the Wep kep and various details on a word file on my pc before I reinstalled xp. I was sure I put the folder on my external HD before I wiped everything but cant find it now. The missus uses her laptop here all the time, so I'm running on the hoep that the wep key is on her laptop somewhere, the question is, can it be retrieved?

    Any help much appreciated.

Just perform a hard reset of the router and change the WEP key.

Just perform a hard reset of the router and change the WEP key.

This is the most sensible thing to do and will only take a few minutes to do (make sure you know your login details for the ISP). Otherwise just retrieve the WEP key from the router without resetting it if possible.

    What router do you have?

Go to the configuration page of your router (usually http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.1.254 if eircom netopia) from your laptop and find the WEP key(s) in the wireless security part.

Most routers should show you the key...

Failing all that, I'd go look up your router version on Google, and see if you can find any help.

If you'd care to post your address I'll get it for ya . . . :D

Ahem . . . As said previously, connect to the router with an ethernet cable and access the configuration page and the key will be there. While you're there change the key type to WPA - a WEP key (even 128bit) can be cracked in about 20 seconds - I've done it !!!

If you're looking to recover the key there's a file that installs in the folder with airsnort (http://airsnort.shmoo.com/) that will get it for you if it's on the pc.
