    Hi

I am having a problem with my internet. I cant download any files, like Mozilla or Flash media. When I go to the page the button to download what I want is not there. This is getting really frustrating and if someone could point me in the right direction

You'll have to give us more detail...

Does the file download box come up to open/save a file? What browser?

There is nothing that shows up where the download box is. I thought that I was missing something so I tried on a different computer and the download button showed up on the mozilla website.

Even in boards the drop down menu showing Tech, Soc, Sports etc dont show up either....I cant even use the smiley buttons in boards....I have to do it the old fashion way

I am using Internet Explorer, not sure which version but it is not 6 if thats any help ;-)

Sounds like you have javascript disabled.

Thanks but I tried that but the settings for scripting were the same so nothing changed. I might try and uninstall the internet and then copy it from another machine and set it up again......or is that just me being totally mad????

Try switching to firefox, at least temporarily.

Can you talk me through what happens here, i'm still a bit unsure of what you mean:

    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

If you click that big download button on the main page does it bring the file download dialog box up?

That big button on Mozilla doesnt appear at all on the screen, it is the same with flash media on youtube, when I go to the page the buttons do not appear at all.

My old man got an IT guy to look at yesterday and he fixed the problem, but he never got an explanation from the guy....he muttered something about encryption but that doesn't make sense to me.

We are now using Mozilla and it seems to be working a treat....I can even use the smilies on boards noe:D :D:D:D  :(  :) :o

Direct link to firefox download: http://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-2.0.0.4&os=win&lang=en-US

Strange problem. Consider a virus/spyware scan?

Mozilla is working fine, but Internet Explorer is still goosed...I don't know what that IT guy did but it worked.

I don't think that there is a virus on the machine as we just got it back from that IT guy.....come to think of it that is where the problem started.....change to the conspiracy forum ;)

GO to tools options ,in internet explorer and enable JAVA.Download the latest version of flash, go to youtube ,if it plays a video ,flash is installed.Download SLIMBROWSER, its a good version of ie, there may be some problem with your ie install, or security settings are set too high. SOME websites need java enabled to work properly.

I would think that the ActiveX security levels were set too high & the Tech guy probably changed them for Mozilla but not for IE???

Look at the Security settings in IE & if they are set high?, reduce them.
