she's been driving about 2 years now. but she has only got 1 proper lesson..
her dad is a garda,he had has to learn to drive properly or something.so he taught her how to drive at first.
now she doesnt change down her gears when she's driving through roundabouts. she always have her left hand on the gearbox and other on the lower part of the steering.
she nearly got us killed on day while she was driving from a minor rd to a major rd. minor rd was kinda a slope.so ppl on major rd wouldnt have a clear view. she didnt brake at all when she was driving to the major rd!!
and she doenst have an L plate on! with a father as a garda surely her dad should have told her that she is definately not complying the rules of the roads...
before i have my lessons,i knew she was diving very fast, but now that i took some lessons.i know she is doing ALOT of stuff wrong!!

    Yup, that's Ireland for ya.

    Good isn't it?

And you want to know the best bit? I bet she thinks she "is a great driver".

Just goes to show, being of a different sex doesn't make you a better driver!

My parents got a lift from their friend's daughter from the airport one night. They told me the girl didn't even know how to operate the lights on the car! She was driving along while keeping the main beam flasher held in until a car came against her, at which point she would let go and they'd be driving along with no lights on :)

They really need to do what they're now doing with motorcycle licencing, and introduce mandatory lessons for someone getting their first provisional licence.

Took a lift with a guy from work who never took his left hand off the gearbox once before. It was a pretty hairy experience. Funny thing was, he was accusing me of being a nervous driver because he used to see me driving around with two hands on the wheel :)

Anyone see the episode of Darren Browns Trick or Treat with the girl driver that drove around with both hands off the wheel? (pretty much looked like any time she was travelling in a straight line  )

Basically hypnotised her so she couldnt move, and put her at the scene of a car accident. One of the cars involved in the accident was a match of her own, and they had a body double of herself in the drivers seat (with a mask to make it look like her). All the parties involved, the other driver, the police, and the paramedics, were actors and instructed to ignore her... so to her it was as if she had been killed... freaky stuff :o

I always thought there was some sort of mechanism used for interfacing with the gearbox...

In regards to the OP, I've had about 10 lessons or so and I wouldn't go close to saying I know most things about driving, but some of the stuff you see on the roads is madness. While driving a few days back, the person in the car in front of me, while stopped at a set of lights, would proceed to have a nice read while stopped

And Stark......she couldn't use the lights?! Oh dear :(

i was drving behind a foreign reg pug one day, as we came past a golf club, the guy SLAMMED on the brakes, stuck his left hand out the window (left hand drive car) and took a picture of the scene with his camera phone. I couldn't believe it!

Luckily i had been a erasonable distance behind him at the time so I was able to avoid rear ending him.

    pff

real drivers cut a hole under the centre console and actually drive holding the actual gearbox.

obviously easier on the motorcycle than a truck or bus but equally doable.
