Dating a girl with herpes?

I dated a girl for three years and we broke up. We're still friends and think we might end up back together at some point. Truthfully, I still love everything about her. Well, almost everything...

I just found out yesterday (she told me) that she got infected with the HSV in her mouth. I don't know if it's HSV-1 or HSV-2 because I didn't think to ask.

Now, I know that if I really love her that this shouldn't matter, but I'm finding that I'm still bothered by it.

We've had lots of big relationship obsticles to this point, so why not throw some herpes into the mix. I swear to god everything that can strain a relationship has happened in this one...

Mentally, it just seems strange that every so often I wouldn't be able to have physical contact with her, and on top of that, even when there are no visible symptons I'd know I can still contract the virus.

How have you guys dealt with this situation?

Find out which type it is - if its the coldsore type, well, it's no big deal (or if it is, you can rule out a lot of women). If it's the other type, well, you gotta decide if she's worth it.
I know a couple who have faced this problem, and TBH they are incredibly happy together now.

HSV-1 is the orofacial infection version. If she gets cold sores on her mouth, this is the version she has.

HSV-2 is the genital infection version. Obviously, it'll occur on the genital regions.

As long as you don't go licking her cold sores or let her give you oral sex during an outbreak, you'll be fine.
